Don't count on diet pills to do much; the best approach is slightly adjust your diet to consume less calories that are healthier and add 15 minutes of exercise into your current schedule. I little bit of effort will provide you with a healthier lifestyle, more energy & feel great. Good luck with your journey.

Well said, learningexecutive! Studies also prove that making minor changes like reducing a small amount of fat/caloric intake and using the stairs instead of an elevator make it easier to feel good and look better.

Hi Learningexecutive,

I, too, fight the battle of the bulge.  After female surgery in 2004 I gained a substantial amount of weight.  I have since lost about thirty pounds.  I find using less fat, salt and sugar helpful.  I also generally eat more vegetables and use many kind of seasonings.  Although I like the taste of fried food, I rarely fry anymore.  Also, I grew up on Crisco and lard.  I find Olive Oil a much lighter product and have been told it's better for you.  The food is filling and quite delicious.  Perhaps at  a later date we can share recipes.

Diets dont work , but lifestyle changes do..... Use less salt, sugar, reduce fat and grill more, add more fruits and veggies and stay away from fried and  processed foods. Also use Garlic and Olive Oil.   Limit red meats and eat lean meats such as turkey, fish, chicken and watch portions of all proteins.....
Americans  do not eat enough red fruits  such as berries, raspberries, black berries, pomagranites and  strawberries.  Get some exercise every day, even if it is just thirty minute walk, drink lots of water and I can guarantee that not only will you lose weigh you will feel better . Do not deprive yourself of sleep, adequate sleep aids in weight reduction

I talked to my family doctor and she put me on Phentermine (a prescription).  It isn't really a "diet" pill.  What it does is curb your appetite so you don't feel hungry so much.  If you don't have the urge, then you autmomatically are less likely to eat.  I have noticed that sometimes I'll see a plate of food, think I am really hungry, but sometimes can't even eat half of it (because of the prescription).  I get full much quicker now.  I lost 6 pounds in less than a month (with bicycling).

My doctor told me to drink plenty of water and also when at the grocery store try to get everything from the perimeter.  Everything you really need (fruits, vegetables, milk, meat, etc.) can be found in the perimeter.  There is very few things down the isles that you really NEED.

I'm doing Weight Watchers and have lost over 100 pounds.  Drink lots of water, exercise, and eat fruits, veggies and low fat, high fiber!!  It works!!!  Most diet pills etc. tell you to do all this in addition to taking the pills, so why bother with the price of the pill?  Good luck!

I'm a Weight Watchers Life Time member.  You are so right!  There is no magic diet pill... You need to eat and drink the way GOD intended you to, to stay healthy.  You become aware of what you put into your mouth each and every day.  It does become easier as you go.  You can even splurge once in a while, as long as you keep in mind to maintain most of the time.  I've been on vacation for 2 weeks, to an ALL inclusive resort, and still put thought into what I ate.  I didn't put any thought into my drinking.  I gained 4 pounds, at the most, and lost it the next 2 weeks!  It is a lifestyle change, and for me it's forever.  Oh and if you're a HAP insurance member, you only pay $25 every 12 weeks!

i agree with most of the commentators --no pills can work --it has to be a life style change with diet & exercise. walking is the best with yoga and meditation --i'm 55+ so i do feel this is the best method of keeping oneself fit. also engage in any outdoor activity --i play golf so it helps to keep ones mind off food and the many attractive items in the fridge.

I was very heavy when I reached my early 20's, primarily through overeating and too much drinking, all without excercise. I found that by changing my diet and finding time to excercise, it made all the difference in the world. Be sure to eat (at least a small) breakfast to get your metabolism going and eat several small meals throughout the day. I remember seeing a study that less than 30 minutes of excersise a day was not worthwhile ... not sure if that's true. That said, I began working out very hard and still maintain a workout schedule every week (more than 10 years later). Try new things (running, walking, lift weights, cycling, etc) and mix it up. I lost about 75 pounds and 7 inches from my waist in less than a year.

I use Alli green tea fat burner capsules and Dual action cleanser. I rotate them but  they all do what they say their will do for a person motivated to lose weight. I also get out  every morning and walk to the park, around the walking path ,and then back home, totalling between 5 and 7 miles altogether. I walk at least 5 mornings a week.I am losing weight and glad about it. I stopped eating bread almost a year ago. Bread is a treat now! Like a burger or sandwich. The same with sweets.. I eat vegetables everyday and fresh fruit everyday and raisins regulary. I take vitamins and herbs, Vitamins-C,E,potassium,seleinum,A,D,one a day for women and I eat  a portion of hot oatmeal every morning with a small piece of beef sausage or smoked turkey slices, thin. No more pork , or fatty meats. Unless I want to treat myself. No more potatoes , very little pasta maybe once a month. Rice twice a month. A lot more fish and shrimp meals with a lot more vegetables and salads. I am losing weight and feel good and look great I'm told . My skin glows naturally again and is just as clear and smooth again. since May  I have lost 17 pounds which tells you I am doing this in a very healthly way. I'm not pressuring myself just staying motivated and consistent and goal focused. I have twenty more pounds to go then maintain that weight. GNC is where I go to get detailed info . They have a weighing machine in their entrance thats very accurate once you input your height, age ,etc. its only a total of .75 cents. It tells you everything you need to knowto know where you stand with your weight and your "ideal weight".never give up. I encourage myself all the time!!!

Hi, I am currently using the phentermine diet pills, which is working greatly.  The pills do have to be given by a doctor, but they are working!  I havent really changed my bad eating habits, but the pills curb my appetite so I dont eat as much and have managed to lose almost 30 pounds since March.

I have diabetes and must keep my weight down in order to control my sugar.  Diet and exercise are key to doing that.  But I am totally frustrated because the medications I take all have the side effect of weight gain which is just totally unfair.

I have a busy job which has me in the car or at my desk.  I am very unfaithful to exercise and even worse with a diet.  Any help or suggestions would be most appreciated.

I have a friend who also has diabetes and tries to watch her weight. She's had luck with watching her calories and carbs. She also tries to plan what she's going to eat ahead of time so she doesn't get tempted to eat things that will throw her insulin levels off. I hope this helps!

Oh boy, that is very tough. I symphathize with VictoriousMary's situation. Probably the best thing you could do is what Michelina says. Keep carb intake below 50 grams a day, keep protein intake at about 90 grams a day, and eat as much or as little fat as you like (except for partially hydrogenated fat -- don't eat that, it messes you up). That means eating a lot of green leafy vegetables and low-carb starches such as lentils rather than bread, rice, and potatoes. In fact, this is a good approach for anyone trying to lose weight. The typical American diet is full of sugar and starch, which leads to weight gain. As for exercise, can you manage a brisk walk for 10 or 15 minutes a day? Even that small amount is helpful.

Hmm, I hope I can keep those carbs in check and get more excercise before the cold, rainy weather hits and the holiday parties begin!
