How do you find new doctors when you move to a new city?

I always like to go off of referrals from friends and family, but what if you are moving to a completely new place without any friends or family nearby?

You know, that's a really good question. I just had to do that myself, changing my priimary care physician. I hate to say it, but I chose a hospital I trust and told them I needed a new PCP. They found someone they could get me together with (even though he wasn't accepting new patients), and that's all there was to it. I certainly would recommend asking friends, as word of mouth is a great resource for a service that is very personal. However, going with a trustworthy institution sometimes makes it easier, as they can choose a good doctor out of many good doctors on hand. Good luck!

I think it's good to ask co-workers who've lived in the area for a while. Often, those co-workers have strong social networks, and so they can recommend someone based upon their experiences and the experiences of their friends/acquaintances as well.  Even if the co-workers don't live in the area you live in, you can ask their doctors to refer other doctors in your area!
