In southwest Texas, the evening temps can dip down into the 30s. This space heater heats up incredibly fast and keeps warmth concentrated in the area where I want it: my drafty bedroom or my drafty living room.  I found the benefits described on the box are true: this heater provides strong directional...

Most Helpful Critical Review
I used the unit for one day, then decided to return it to my local Sears. While attractive, the unit is prone to tipping over, front to back or back to front. The entire outer shell is made of plastic and the unit is too light-weight as a result. The unit does output directional heat well enough,... read full review »

Our electric heater died at toward the end of the winter. We use it in the basement when we are working there. It took some searching to find a similiar replacement and were glad that Sears still had some available. It works well and we are very happy with it.

I bought this space heater a couple of months ago to supplement the heat in my den which is exposed on 3 sides and gets quite chilly on cold winter nights even though the rest of my house is comfortable.  It works great.  The auto thermostat works perfectly and keeps the heater cycling on and off as needed.  You do not have to reset the temp settings if you simply hold down the off button for a few seconds when turning it off.  It then returns to your settings when turned on afterwards.  The little bit of start-up noise is really nothing as others have complained about, and is gone...

I have only had to use this a couple days so I am not sure what it will really be like in the teeth of winter, but so far so good.  My experience so far is that while it is heating up it is rather "clanky" sounding, but once it starts to blow warm air that sound dies off and is more tolerable sounding.  It does heat up the area right in front of it over time so I am not sure how that will affect the carpet.  The thermostat and temp settings seem a little "bootleg" but I guess they work.  I doubt I will use the thermostat that much since it is a larger room and will cycle too much.  Overall...

Good Buy

We purchased this heater a year ago to take the chill out of our bedroom during those cold north Georgia nights. This heater is great! The one touch works well and remembers the last setting, in the morning I simply hold the single button to turn it off then in the evening hit it again to turn it back on to the last temperature setting. The automatic shut off when the unit is tilted works well also. Our dog loves the unit and will sit in front of it throughout the night as the unit turns on and off according to the temperature setting. This is well worth the $50.00 spent.

Works great in milder winter climates

I live in Phoenix, so our winter cold isn't as brutal as other parts of the country, although we do get down into the 30s at night. I was tired of paying huge gas bills to heat the entire house in winter, and this space heater works great as an alternative to just keep the bedroom warm at night, or it's light enough to easily move it around the house to wherever I'm spending some time. I also like the thermostat feature so that it's not running continously. Also, I have multiple cats, so I appreciate the safety feature that it turns off automatically if one of the cats bumps it too hard or tips... read full review »

Holmes Quartz Space Heater

Compact and convenient radiant space heater with high wife acceptance factor. Relatively quiet fan, especially on the low heat setting. Only drawback is that it is necessary to keep pushing the ON button to cylce through the various temperature and heat settings. Other than that, a very good heater, and one that I would certainly recommend.

3 stars

This heater only lasted one winter and started this winter. I have two of them. One coil burned out almost as soon as I started using it and the other one still has both coils burning but it isn't kicking out the heat. When they were new, they did a decent job of warming a room. Our winters are mild so I don't know how it would perform in a colder area of the country.

319 two tube quartz

I have very little experience with electric heaters and have never had a quartz heater. So this is the impression of a total newbie. This is not much of a room heater. Very little air heating. Great to keep you warm (on one side at least) while working at the computer or watching TV. That said I love the red glow and warmth and its helped me out alot without central heating, but I ordered 6 econoheat panel heaters for heating the airspace.

Best of All That I Tried

I really like the Holmes HQH319 heater. I'm a single person in a large house. I spend most of my evenings in my home office, so I use the HQH319 in that room rather than heating the whole house with the central system. I went through several other heaters over a three year period before settling on this one. I've used two different ceramic heaters, one was a low cube and one was a tower. Neither one of those put out as much heat as I wanted yet they consumed a lot of electricity. Then I tried a parabolic heater. It was much more efficient, but the beam of heat was too narrow. It would heat a portion... read full review »

Heats great; too noisy for me

I love the heat this heater puts out.  Unfortunately, the ongoing fan is too noisy for me, so I returned the heater.  My living room is big, with a high ceiling, & this heater would have been perfect, if it hadn't been too noisy.  The warm-up noise was not the problem; the fan noise was.   After checking through all the other reviews, I am the only one who was bothered by the fan noise, so if you're not particularly sensitive to noise, you would love this heater.  By the way, it did not seem unstable to me, but I didn't test that.
