The 65" Panasonic S1 is an excellent tv.

I guess the biggest thing to know is if you purchase a HTIB, they use proprietary wires so do not run any wires or pre prep anything before you purchase a unit.

I do feel the Sony HTIBs have the best sound for a stock HTIB.

yeah I will make a thread on things to watch for/know about from CES this year. A lot of important stuff that may shape the future of electronics.

cool and thankyou!  Im quite interested in knowing if blue ray has been standardized a little more and what the new players are about..

I would say the offered features across the board have become more standardized. Especially with the addition features that blu-ray players offer you.

I was concerned while shopping at xmas that I found those that upconverted and those that play blue ray only those with net flix, those without...etc etc etc...

Im not sure I want HTIB  but I do want blue ray and 7.1 sound with net streaming capability....

We just recently replaced a very old, 27" floor-model Magnavox TV with a low-end Sony BRAVIA 46" 1080p LCD full HDTV (Model KDL-46S5100). While this, alone, would have been an awesome improvement....to it I added a compatible Sony home theater system (again, low-end Model DAV-HDX287WC) which took everything to a new level in terms of sound! (It has 4 speaker surround, plus the main bass speaker)

This particular home theater system has an MSRP of $298, and retails at the 'big' department store for $268. I got mine---- brand-new and delivered to my door ---- from the 'big' online auction site for $178. It came with the Sony S-AIR AIR-SA10 Wireless Speaker + Transceiver card, which is for use in another room. Since we already have our other rooms taken care of with their own TV's  ---- as well as a home stereo system with wireless speakers, throughout---- we didn't need this wireless speaker. So, I put it right back up for sale on the 'big' online auction site, where it brought almost $90.

End result: my Sony home theater system cost a net of less than $90.

The Sony DAV-HDX587WC is the exact same system, just has speaker stands for the two main front speakers. Not worth the additional cost versus the HDX285 or HDX287, IMHO, when you can buy said speaker stands, or exact non-Sony models, for a pittance.

Hope this helps!
