I've found that staying within a brand offers great ease of installation, which can be a plus depending on how much fiddling you want to do to get the tv and home theater system to communicate effectively with each other.

Pretty much all home theater systems these days have HDMI outputs, though, so that's not really a concern anymore.

You can get the onkyo HT-S5200 7.1 channel for $445 from ONECALL.COM,  or if you want, you can just add 100 bucks more to get the onkyo HT-6100 7.1 channel for $550. They are on sale right now and it's free shipping. Also, sales tax are only applicable on some states. I just got mine yesterday (HT-6200 7.1 channel) with free shipping and no sales tax, and i can tell you, the sound quality is really good. It's really worth my money.
