KENMORE POWER MISER 6 —

We purchased the Kenmore Power Miser 6 water heater in 2007...by mid 2008 we began to have problems with the pilot light going out. When this happened, water would also leak from the pressure relief valve all over the floor. This persisted for the next several months. So several cold showers later, I called the service center and they of course wanted to charge me for the visit, labor, and parts on an appliance that I just paid for!

When I started doing a little investigation, I realized that there were many others that have had the SAME PROBLEM with this product that we have that I couldn't even read ALL OF THE BAD REVIEWS! And that was just on the SEARS website alone! I officially have talked to over 10 persons from dept. to dept. (water heater service line, National Customer Service Center, Kenmore division, One-Source, and a few more I am unsure who they were) re: this issue, including one manager named Josh that offered NO HELP or referral at all and eventually hung up on me! I was finally given the corporate address which I will most definately write to. I will make sure to notify the BBB also since there is NO RECALL currently on this produce despite the fact that there are so many individuals having the same problem with a part that is, of course, NOT COVERED under the limited 6 year warranty, but under the 1 year warranty and just so happens to FAIL within 1 year of going out of warranty! THIS IS A FAULTY PART THAT SHOULD BE EITHER SEARS OR KENMORE RESPONSIBILITY TO REPLACE, NOT THE CONSUMER WHO JUST PAID FOR THE PRODUCT!!!!!!!!!! I WOULD LOVE TO HEAR BACK FROM SOMEONE re: this case but probably won't.

Echos to everything you've said... only our heater was leaking from day one -- not only onto the floor, but around the cold-water inlet line down into the insulation, a great way to grow mold. After a week without hot water in our home (from the day of installation), we still are awaiting a field service representative to show up to say, "Yep, it's leaking and is defective. You can take it back to the store, and within a week, we should have another one just like it for you to have installed yourself, because we only replace defective heaters, not the labor to install them."

To smfoil4,

My name is Brian and I am part of the Sears Cares escalations team. I’m sorry to hear about this issue with your water heater. I understand your frustration with this and we may be able to help. We would like the opportunity to look into this issue and see what we have available to get this resolved for you.
Just as an aside, the average failure rate for water heaters is less than 5% of product sold. Unfortunately, people generally only post negative experiences. What you are not seeing is the 95% of people who never have problems with their water heaters.
At your convenience, please contact our office at searscares@searshc.com so that we can resolve this for you.. When you have a moment, please send an email. Please provide a contact phone number and the phone number the water heater was purchased under (if different than the contact phone number) and we will call you directly. In addition, please provide the screen name (smfoil4) for reference to this issue and we do look forward to talking to you soon.

Thank you,

Brian J.
