this machine weighs around 11-12 pounds and takes up a very small footprint. at the same time, it is not a toy! it can be used as one's primary sewing machine quite easily if your needs consist of hemming, garment construction, seam repair, etc. you can also take this machine to quilting class - it's very lightweight. this would also be good for someone new to sewing as the threading is easy to do.Kenmore 1/2 Size Sewing Machine
