10000 btu ac

This is the best ac available. It is the most quiet unit on the market(checked with a sound meter). The front grill is a bit thin but if you put white electrical tape under the grill and filter door it is very quiet. I sleep 3 feet from the window and it has to be quiet. I tossed a new Haier because... read full review »

Very Cheap Build

I have to admit, I'm really surprised by all the 5-star reviews. To be honest, the unit does cool extremely well. However, the build on this unit is just too cheap to imagine the unit lasting for more than a two or three years. The front cover snaps on and the prongs used for the snap are very easily... read full review »

Works good while it lasts

Excellent cooling, good fan capacity, energy efficient.

Now the bad, cheapest cabinet and grill that you can imagine.

Noisy, rattling piece of **** cabinet wise.

Other than the noise, worked good for two seasons.

When started using it this summer, compressor was vibrating and making even more noise and constantly cycling on and off.

Took to the dump.

Previous units I've had have ran for years.

2 summers and it ***** out? unreal !

Would not recommend this cheap made ac.

I bought this unit based on reviews and **************** testing which rated it as one of the best air conditioners.  The local store ran out of this model, so I had to purchase online from Sears.com.  The order was placed on a weekend, the unit shipped on Monday and was received the next day. Impressive!

Installation took about 30 minutes, which was not unusual.  The instructions could be a little better written and illustrated, but not hard to follow or understand.

The trouble began when I turned the unit on.  It sounded like a high speed motorboat, and that was INSIDE the house. ...

My 7-year old Panasonic imploded so I bought the Kenmore 10,000 BTU AC on sale (& Energy Saver rebate to boot!). My main concern, beyond cooling, was it needed to be quiet as it was for a music teaching studio in hot & humid Hawaii. I listened to it at Sears and it seemed okay but was louder than I wanted.

The install is easy if you're handy with tools. The unit weights 79 lb but 1/3 of that weight is in the metal sleeve or housing. Mount the housing and simply slide the relatively light AC unit in. Most homes and offices in Hawaii lack the traditional windows of mainland buildings--we have a...

CONS: The front grill and some of the other plastic components are so cheaply made, you'll have to take great care in assembling the air conditioner so as not to break anything.  You may also need to drill out some of the holes for mounting the side wings, so have your drill handy. Once your unit is installed and working, you may find that the cheap, front grill rattles and has to be duct-taped tightly to the rest of the unit.  Also, if you use the unit while it is raining, keep an eye out for significant water leakage coming from the front.

PROS: All of the problems aside, this unit is a real...

This unit was easy to install and performs great. I found no problems with this unit.

Fan motor failed in 5 months.  The repair person stated to have seen too many broken examples of this model built by LG for Kenmore.  Compressor broke exactly at 4 year anniversary.  Sears would not repair or replace.

cools nicely but NOISY!!!!

I bought this unit in June of 2008, it is used about 5 months a year. When we 1st purchased this unit it was as quiet as you would excpect it to be. However when I turned it on this season what a racket,  I can't sleep for the noise/roar of the motor. Try to watch tv in the same room impossible, volume turned way up and the roar still over powers the tv.  Hopefully I can get this repaired but since it is a motor issue I think it will be costly.  It's a shame that appliances are built to last only a couple years and in all reality this unit was used approximately 10 months. I had seen some of...

I'm surprised at how well this unit cools and how little electricity it uses for the size.  Most other units use more electricity, are a lot noisier, and don't cool as well.

My house is quite old and has no insulation.  Our living room gets sun all day long.  It was getting up to 98 degrees inside the living room.  I bought this unit and installed this in about one hour.  The living room is about 18 x 20 and opens to the dining room on one side and the hallway on the other.  We have a 50A panel in the house with one 20A circuit powering three bedrooms, the living room and dining room. ...

Works well, a bit noisy

We've had this a/c for about a year now.  It was successful in keeping our house quite cool last season.  Its so powerful that we use it to cool our entire downstairs (in conjunction with some well-placed fans).  When we're out, we put it on "energy saver" mode, and it cycles on and off beautifully.

While this unit is "noisy" when on full-force, I can still hold conversations at the dinner table and talk on the phone without having to shout.

Unit weathered the winter in the garage and is still working well.  We are going to get other Kenmore's a/c's to replace some REALLY noisy frigidaire's...

Good Buy

  • I moved from a very dry area to an extremely humid area during the summer and could not handle the heat and humidity in my new apartment. The day after I arrived I purchased this unit and it cooled my living room well. I am not sure I would have been able to live in my apartment otherwise. It has been a good product for the price and would recommend it to anyone who lives in a small apartment that does not have central a/c. I didn't put the unit together but my fiance complained about the face of the unit not being well manufactured and easy to assemble. I did not notice any flaws upon first glance...

The price was good and the unit looked good in the store. It went together somewhat easily and immediately started cooling. But the main and only real problem was the front cover. It rattles and it is very loud at times. The mounting prongs for the cover,at the front bottom, were bent so I bent them back into place. This seemed to help for a little while but after several hours use the rattle came back louder them before. The black foam-looking strip included with the unit was not installed anywhere and there was no photo or instructions in the manual as to where to place the strip. So I placed across...

Easy to use - does the job

Unit was purchased for elderly parents. Easy for them to use, just set the temperature and forget it. Unit ran quietly for a window unit just feet from the sitting area. It had a good work out with the high dew points here in the northeast in mid-late Aug.

The remote was a challenge for the parents, we had to "lose" it since they kept inadvertently set the timer feature (unit would shut off). Not a equipment issue, but a technology challenge to some.

I have always purchased Kenmore room air conditioners and have highly recommended them to people for years. This unit though was a sorry disappointment in too many ways! (Always sad to see a company you've always trusted cheapen their products this way.) I will list the negatives: Grill was SO cheap and flimsy I was afraid to open and close the "door" to the filter. The hinges are so thin they surely won't last more than a couple of years. They "stick" so badly as you try to shut the door that it feels you will break it for sure. This front panel with door did not fit tighly and securely...

Great Unit, Pain to Install

I will say, most of the reviews on this model are spot on. It does a great job cooling, is on the quiet side and, yes, is a pain in the rear to install. Living on the 3rd floor of an apartment building, the operation requires some care. Generally speaking, the instructions are hard to follow. Unless you find someone experienced at this or similar mechanical work you may be in some trouble. Be forewarned!
