When my Kenmore vacuum broke after a little more than 6 months of use - complete with a bit of smoke and a burning smell - I opened it up to see what was wrong. I expected the belt to be broken - but no, instead it was the beater bar. The *wooden* beater bar. Apparently plastic ends are glued to what is essentially a wooden dowel with brushes on it. It's all painted black, so it appears to be one piece, but it is not. The end cap that keeps the beater bar in place sheared off from the rest of the brush. I can't help but think that this is a really poor construction/material decision...

The vacuum is a good buy for dog hair, but it is very heavy lifting it up and down the stairs. It picks up dog hair well and is easy to clean. I bought my as a floor model and is very happy with the performance
I have had this vacuum cleaner for about a year and have used it about 4 times and today I remembered why! The canister is empty and the suction hose is clear and I should know because I took it apart thinking there was a clog but it just does not have enough power to suck dirt off of the floor and the brush just throws things at your feet. When I'm done vacuuming, I still have an empty canister and I'm walking around in a cloud of dust. I was going to give it away but I can't subject anyone else to my misery. Thank you for nothing Sears! This thing truely is like vacuuming with a shovel!
This is the worst vacuum that I have ever owned. Sears should be ashamed to sell piece of junck like this. I must have replaced more than 20 belts (which is $5)during the two years I had.
My wife and I purchased this vacuum just over a year ago, and we think it is one of the best vacuums we have ever owned. We love the bagless emptying feature. The suction is great, so I don't understand the complaints about not enough suction. I am a long time Sears customer, and retired employee, and I absolutely love this vacuum.
I bought this vac about a year ago. At first I thought it was a great vac for the price. After a few months it started going downhill. First the furniture tool was not good due to not enough suction when using the hose. There ended up being no suction at all when using the hose, this is a major let down as I use that hose a great deal of the time. I could not be more upset when I started to notice the tunnel action in the canister had stopped and the debri was hitting my feet because it was coming back at me instead of going into the canister. I would not recommend this vac to anyone. ...
read full review »I bought this at the repair center, it is a refurbirshed and had the same warranty as brand new. My 3 yr old kenmore vacuum that my girls bought me was having issues ( beater bar bearings went out) I just wanted something to get me by until I can buy the "Dyson Animal", this vacuum cleaned better than the $300 kenmore I had before. I was amazed at how much it had in the canister even though I just vacuumed earlier that day with my old one. I don't know why others have bad reviews on it, I agree it is bulky that part does stink. As far as what it picks up ... I don't have any complaints. ...

I have alwasy purchased the lower end Kenmore vacuum cleaners and have been very satisfied with their performance until I purchased this one. At the same time, I also purchased one for my mother. From the first day of use we both discovered that it worked fine until the canister was about 1/4th full then it would stop pick up (there would be very little suction. There wasn't even enough suction to turn the brush on the animal hair attachment. I took both of them back and exchanged them for the same ones, and they did the same thing. read full review »We purchased this vacuum about a year ago, we have always trusted Kenmore, and at first we were thrilled but within three to four months it started getting clogged. WE would clean up the vaccum regularly because we have two dogs, and it just kept on happening, my husband is a mechanic and thank God he was able to open up the vaccum and clean the hoses himself. Would probably buy Kenmore vaccuums just not this one.
I do enjoy the bagless feauture.
