where is the back of the chassie?

Kenmore 12,000 BTU Multi-Room Air Conditioner —
We just purchased and installed this window unit. It did not take too long to install and it is easy for two to lift and put into the window chassie. However, the air conditioner case which you slide the unit into does not have a back.. it has a top and both sides and a base rail on each side to slide the air conditioner into.. but the back, which is where the fins are is open to the outside.. honestly it looks as if they forgot to put the back metal piece on the case. The last air conditoner we had was the same type and that one did have a top, sides and the back to enclose the unit.. so that is why I can not recommend this unit yet..also, the little lever to switch from outside air to inside air only is very very flimsy.. I can see that breaking in no time at all.
