My husbanc bought two of these air conditioners 5 years ago. We used them to cool our old two story farm house. 4 years ago that farm house burned to the ground. Both air conditions were stored in the basement and had been soaked in water and chemicals by the fire department. We had them cleaned... review »

This is one LOUD unit, I read all the reviews I could before purchasing, it seemed like a good buy, perhaps I got a lemon... It does cool very nicely though in a 600 sq foot space with some walls. The only beef I have with it is when I turn it on,the fan, NOT the compressor, makes a loud girggling sound... review »

I have purchased several units from Sears, and my most recent was this 12,000 BTU unit that was installed in my computer room. Everytime I install one of these units from Sears I am just amazed at the quality and cooling capacity of Kenmore units. It is extremely quiet and pumps out loads of cool air. The energy saver is very good on my electric bill too. I thought I would go "out of the box" this time and get a 12,000 Frigidaire unit, what a HUGE mistake that was! I should've just stuck to what I know best. The Frigidaire unit cooled great, but it's like sitting next to a freight train 24/7. Shaked... review »

I mounted this unit in a window in a 20x20 workshop and it works fine. I also bought a 7,800 btu unit which is mounted in a separate room off the workshop. See my review of it for a comparison of noise levels. A sound level meter was placed 8' in front of this A/C, slightly below the air register. With the FAN ONLY running it measured 62 dB on low, 63 dB on medium and 64 dB on high. With the compressor running it measured 65-66 dB. The 7,800 btu was 3 dB quieter with the compressor running and 6-7 dB quieter with the fan only. Since the two units are mounted differently, in different rooms,... review »

I live in a single level ranch home (3 bedrooms/living room/kitchen/bathroom) and it's just under 1000 sq feet. I would always dread the hot months because that meant having to put air conditioner units in every bedroom as well as the living room. This year I knew I was going to need a new unit so I searched and searched and found this model. I read all the reviews and took a chance! ABSOLUTELY AMAZING! I installed it last night. ...an AC that does what it's supposed to do! I've been through so many AC's that just don't live up to their promises. I bought this for 3 reasons - name brand, "multi-room" designation, and price. I use it to cool my living room, kitchen and hallway - LR 17x16, KIT 13x13, HALL 10x4. This machine cools the whole area FAST!! And it stays cool! Very easy set-up, too.

Thank you to all the folks that have reviewed this AC. I just bought one of these based on all the reviews saying how quiet it is and you guys are right, it is amazingly quiet! It is quieter than most tabletop or box fans. My ceiling fans make more noise than this AC. The only sound I can hear is the quiet, gentle flow of the air coming out the front. There is no compressor sound at all. No rattles. No roaring air, even on high speed. No buzzing. No motor or compressor noise whatsoever. I suffer from insomnia and live in a 109 year old home without central heat or air. I purchased this 12,000 btu unit to replace a failed 10,000 btu unit I had for three years in my bedroom...I used to sleep with a pillow over my head and would still wake up to the sound of the rattling AC unit. This is by far the quietest window ac unit I have ever had ! I have had many different sizes and brands of window ac units over the years and I have finally found one that works great and is actually quiet ! We just purchesed this 12000BTU unit along with one smaller 7800BTU. They both installed quite easily cooled the house down quickly and are really quiet. With the both running we cooled 1560sq ft down to 72deg from 87deg and the units are cycling on and off as they should. I am thinking about getting one more just because I am cooling alot of SQ/FT. I wouldnt hesitate to recommend these to anyone!!

After reading numerous reviews, we decided on the Kenmore 12,000BTU, as it was thermostatically controlled, and quiet, two features we required. Checked online, for availability within our area, drove in, purchased, picked up, (they even loaded it into our car for us!), all within an hour!! Brought the unit home. We have a large, old farmhouse in Rhode Island, South-facing, with maximum amount of sunlight. Although we are near the water, and have a lovely breeze, the humidity is BRUTAL. My partner works from home during the summer months, so, it is imperative to have a comfortable environment.... review »

All I can say is this beast is worth every dime I spent on it. Its cools my living room, dining room, and kitchen. Basicly the entire first floor of my house. The price is just right at $339.00 you cant go wrong. All I could say is purchase this air conditioner. Besides the cooling capacity the name Kenmore speaks for itself. I still have my old Kenmore Frige 20 years old. My washer 22 years old. Do yourself a favor trust in Kenmore products they are obviously great products. They wear like iron.

Love this ac, I didn't know this was a "cabinet" style unit, made it easy to install. (the ac slides out of the metal housing and you install the metal housing cabinet into the window then simply slide the ac unit into the metal housing plug it in and turn it on). It is heavy but very, very quite unlike some of the reviews i read. It cools very well and we use it to cool our whole ranch style house to 70deg on the energy setting. 90deg and humid outside and 70deg and dry inside.

Good Unit - weak installation instruction

This is a nice unit, I m using to cool the upstairs of my home, about 800 sq ft. Seems to do so with ease after a couple hours of running. However, the installation instructions were horrible at best. You can find more detailed information in a fortune cookie. I consider myself very handy and these were difficult to follow.

Do not order this unit online for shipping by UPS. The one I received was completely destroyed. It was missing the whole front control unit, the case was dented/smashed, the fins were mashed, there was no window mounting hwd kit/side curtains and the big elec. plug had smashed thru the fins and cut one of the cooling lines in half. There is way too little packing material in box and believe this item was a returned one to begin with. Took it to local store and asked for one in brand new unopened box. Return worked well and be sure and have packing slip w/return number along with online receipt.... review »
