Plugged it in and it quickly cooled down and was ready for use the next morning. The organizers in the bottom help keep bags of ice upright and easy to reach. I started my christmas baking right away and filled the compartments with cookies in ziplock bags but didn't have to worry about other foods falling on them and crushing them because they were in the organizers. The sliding baskets on top were great for frozen juices and breads. It was just the right amount of extra freezer space we needed without having to go with a full size freezer. I love it!
...

We raise most of our own food so we need plenty of freezer space. We now have 3 Kenmore freezers. The oldest is about 15 years old and they all have been very dependable. Not a problem with any of them. We have a simply storage. Meat in one. Fruit in another. And vegetables in the third. At this time of the year they are all full so we are ready for another cold Maine winter.
...

I recently purchased a Kenore 13 cu. ft. Chest Freezer, because I have a side by side refridgerator and even though I love it nothing fits into the freezer. So never mind not being able to stock up it's hard just to fit a weeks worth of frozen stuff into the freezer. So My Kenmore Chest Freezer works out perfectly it fits everything I need and them some in it. It was a great buy for the price....

Our electric energy supplier is running a recycling program through 2012. They picked up our 30+ year old, Kenmore/Sears 23 cu. ft, working freezer & refunded us $50. We were sure that it was an energy hog & our electric bill keeps going up & up so we hope to save money by taking advantage of First Energy's program. Our old freezer was recycled & we purchased this smaller freezer. Never having one problem in over 30 years with our old freezer, you can imagine my surprise when we plugged the new one in & nothing happened. It didn't work! I still had the old freezer in the basement so it wasn't a big deal. We exchanged the new, non-working freezer for another new one & were given a 10% discount on the replacement for all our trouble. The replacement freezer works fine so far.

We've been using the new one about a month now. I can't vouch for any savings on our electric bill yet because we had to keep our old one plugged in to prove that it worked. I'll add the savings...
...

...be aware that it DOES build up frost faster than what I consider normal, even when opend only briefly once or twice a day. Certainly much faster than the Kenmore freezer that this new purchase replaced.

It is very sturdily built---the lid, especially. I checked other brands' lids and they were all "flexable"--you could give the handle a little turn and the whole lid would twist! Not this one, even though it is NOT a solid core lid---which would have been nice to have. *hint*hint*

The Energy Star rating was one of the main reasons I chose this model. For it's size it will be very cheap to run--around $30 yrly in my area. I'm still getting used to the slightly smaller size---13cd.ft. as opposed to my old 15...I think this one seems a lot smaller than the 15 due to the bulky dividers that came with it. They're GREAT to organize where your different foods are---it came with stickers to mark Poultry, Beef, Desserts, Vegetables, etc--but I think I may end up removing them just to gain more...
...

I've bought upright freezers in the past. I didn't like the idea of the chest kind. I needed one for my storage area. The chest one fit the place i had for it. It turned out to work much better than the upright i had in the past. I thought it would be hard to get to the food, but the baskets and sections in the freezer makes it easy to sort the food and find what i need.

The energy star appliance works great and hasn't made my electric bill go up at all. I always buy Kenmore and this one hasn't disappointed me. It seems that i can store much more than i could with the upright. It even has a light.

We've had our Kenmore Chest Freezer for almost 2 years now and it has done well. We store a lot of food in it and have not had to defrost it yet, but I can see ice build up on some of the sides so I see that day coming soon.

One big plus of this freezer compared to others we looked at was the organizational compartments. This makes a huge difference when you are looking for something specific and want to hurry to avoid opening the door for very long. My parents have an upright freezer which they upgraded from a chest freezer and say they wish they had the chest freezer again because of the amount of food that it holds compared to the upright. An upright may have just a tiny bit more organization to it than a chest but not this one, with the additional compartments it is very functional.

We were replacing a larger chest freezer because the lid liner went bad and couldn't get another one as not being manufactured anymore (Montgomery Ward) it was a good working freezer but leaking air sooooo....... Anyway I went with a brand I knew and really like it, smaller yes but family is smaller now so no big deal, holds everything that was in bigger freezer with room for more. Love the light really helps to see whats in there. Old one didn't have dividers so that is something new and kind of like it. Going to rearange refrig freezer and reorganize both today. Really love the lock as it keeps grandkids out of it and me too.
...

I just received this freezer yesterday. Turned it on this morning, to give it the 4 hours the manual says it needs to get cold, I then run out and bought hundreds of dollars of food to out into it since I now have a freezer and can get bulk food deals. I arrived home with the food, open it up and what's this: it's still warm inside. I putsome of the the food in, thinking that might help increase the cold. I was wrong. It's been running for 12 hours now, and it's barely cold enough to call it a refrigerator. We're packing food with ice to keep it from rotting, even though I have a $400 chest freezer that is 1 day old.

I call customer service and I'm told that they can send a tech out to try to fix it. It's suppose to be a brand new freezer? BRAND NEW and I have to have it fixed? That's ridiculous! I want a brand new one and quick. Well the fastest they can get it to me is Saturday. So now I get to have to rearrange my day to accomodate a tech to see if we can patch it up so the...
...

good freezer (so far, owned for 1 month @ time of review) had to remove basement door to allow to fit thru. Happy with purchase. factory setting seems to keep freezer between -8 & 5 degrees Fahrenheit. Will go colder if needed (my freezer is located indoors in basement). Top lid does not seem sturdy enough to store large heavy items on, so we only keep a few comforters on top, which also makes it easier to enter freezer when items are needed....

I am a homebrewer intending to convert this chest freezer into 4-tap kegerator for corny kegs. I can easily fit 5 pin lock corny kegs and a 20lb co2 tank on the floor with plenty of clearance when closing the lid. With ball lock kegs you could probably fit another in there without a problem.

I can't say there are really any major faults with this freezer. It does buzz slightly when the compressor is running but now that I've had it for a few weeks I don't notice it at all.
I can see the plastic dividers being extremely useful for organization if I were using it to store frozen goods as they're sturdy and versatile. The build quality seems pretty decent compared to some lower priced freezers I've looked at as well, so I'm glad I splurged a little bit and got this one....

We purchased this chest freezer as a step up in size to our smaller 15 yr. old Frigidaire. We bought a 1/2 steer (Belted Galloway, grass fed, lean and delicious) and realized once we got it home we needed more freezer space. SEARS and "next day delivery" to the rescue!

The freezer is very nice, good fit and finish. Quiet. The light in the lid is "luxury"...I never realized what more we could see, and the storage bins have been a great plus. The top does get cold (cold transfer) so obviously a little more insulation would have been a good thing. But it is Energy Star rated so efficiency is good.

We had an upright before for years and husband wanted the chest this time. Chests seem to have more space than the upright and I have to agree, they do. With this chest, The light in the lid seems to interfere with a FULL basket in the center position. You have to make sure a full basket is not left in the center position or the lid won't completely close.

The key-lock does not make it theft-proof but the manufacturer never claimed it. The plastic key does indeed make it child-proof. Otherwise, we've been enjoying it for 2 months now and we're still loving it!
...

We had a chest freezer for many years and it stopped working...so we needed another. We chose the Kenmore Chest Freezer. It is doing it's job, keeping our food frozen. It has great organizers both vertically and horizontally which our old freezer did not have, so that is a wonderful feature.

The Kenmore chest freezer does make an odd "swooshing" noise on a regular cycle that I am not used to. The freezer is in the basement so it doesn't interfere with our lives, but when in the basement you can clearly hear the muted "swosh" of something running in the freezer. I can also say that I am disappointed that frost has already began to form inside the freezer. I never had frost in my old freezer so I'm not sure why it's already beginning to form in the new one and we've only owned it a month so far. Time will tell how I really like this freezer!
