Replacement for 40 year old same size. Outward appearence leads you to believe that it would be better insulated (thicker wall); with checking outside cabinet with ditigital thermometer it "leaks" same amount of cold as 40 year old one. Top edge of cabinet is 4 piece with 8 plastic seam joints which causes inability for lid seal to function 100% (allows 8 leaks) which allows more "frost up" than the old one. Does same job as old but was expecting a little better quality for the price.

My husband really wanted us to buy an upright freezer, but we didn't have luck with the last one (door came open a couple of times and also it quit working after about 5 years) so I wanted a chest freezer. We bought this one based on the reviews so wanted to share my opinion after we got ours home and filled with food. My husband's gripe with chest freezers is that stuff on the bottom gets forgotten and goes to waste. Not with this freezer. I am so glad we bought it. There is a heavy plastic removable grid in the bottom of the freezer that divides it into 6 sections and then you have two baskets... review »

I gave up a upright freezer for this chest type for the electricity savings. I thought it would be much harder to use but on the contrary it is much easier. The sliding trays work great and the compartments keep everything much more accessable than the upright. Plus I can use the top for things like folding cloths.

This model is simple and basic. I like the temp. control feature, which I did not have on my 30 year old sears freezer. The sturdy plastic dividers are adjustable and removable. I also like the power-on indicator light. It has a nice bright interior light. If you don't push both sliding baskets fully to the left and the right, the interior light will make contact and may break. The flimsey side grill, which covers the compressor, was caved-in when the freezer was delivered. I removed the grill to check for damage. Everything was ok. Therefore, I think the grill could use some beefing-up to prevent... review »

this freezer has plenty of room. I like the deviders and the 2 baskets. The light makes it eazy to see everything in there. Also energy star!

I love this freezer. I bought it to replace a very old upright side-by-side that I used as an extra freezer. My energy savings are already noticeable. I thought it would take awhile to fill it as it was looking a little bare still after transeferring the old stuff into it, but only a few weeks later it is now packed. Now I can buy so much more in bulk and on sale, I am wondering why I didn't buy it sooner! I think the inserts to divide it are a great idea also--it keeps my zones nice and neat so I can find stuff easily. The only downside I have seen is it is already developing a good amount of... review »

After having our previous chest freezer for over 18 years we recently decided to replace it with another one. We looked at the uprights and liked the idea of shelves, but went with the energy efficient chest model instead. Pleasantly surprized to see we had dividers inside along with the upper bins which helps to organize foods. This is a perfect size to stock up on groceries but not too big to take up a lot of room. Our old one was 16 cu.ft. and we hardly ever filled it completely.

I really liked this product since I had a specific place that I needed to put a freezer. I was looking at an upright but decided that since it was going in an un-insulated garage the chest type was better. I especially like the baskets and the organizational kit that came with it. So far it seems perfect for my needs.

I purchased this freezer 10 months ago, and it's fabulous. I've had absolutely no problems what so ever with it. While cost swayed me to go with this chest model over the stand-up, Im definitely happy with this freezer. You can't go wrong with this one.

I set out to purchase a Kenmore Elite Upright because I have always had chest models and I thought the upright would be easier to deal with and take up less space. I made the decision to purchase this model based on the comments shown, price, and availability. I purchased it July 3rd and it was delivered July 4th. I have not had it long enough to rate the durability, but overall I am pleased with this purchase. My only negative comment would be every time I open it I am concerned that I have not closed the lid good.
