I don't know how I lived so long without one!!! Its cut down the amount of trash bags I have to haul to the transfer station (we don't have trash pickup). I like the plastic bags better-they don't rip like the paper ones do. Anyway, I am very pleased with this purchase. I have all Sears (Kenmore) products...

I've own this trash compactor for 13 months now, it is just out of warranty, and the plastic gear that runs the compression plate up and down and holds it down on the extra compact cycle, broke. I called Sears for service, and was told it would cost me $75 dollars to have a repair person come out but...

Great trash smasher ! I read all the reviews and liked this one the best. As far as the machine goes it is the bomb. We used to empty two bags a week. Now we empty the "Smasher" once every two weeks. Just can't believe the stuff it holds. I do a lot of cooking and this is a life saver in the kitchen. Just don't know why we didn't have one years ago.
A stand alone trash compactor is hard to find and Sears has the largest selection. The product is exactly what I was looking for and it works wonderful. I especially like that the knob to turn the compactor on can be removed for safety reasons. That way there's no chance of a small child turning it on.
We have no room under the counter so we got the Kenmore convertible which is finished on all sides except the back. It has rear wheels which make it easy to move even though it is heavy. We installed into the pantry with the back against a wall. Fits easy and just plugs into a outlet. The deodorizer makes it smell good. We went from emptying the trash daily to once a week and it is all in one bag. My wife loves it and is very happy with this addition which makes life good for me:)
The reviews on this compactor led me to buy it and I'm glad I did.
I was a bit disappointed because I thought a free standing unit would be finished on all sides. The back is plain metal while the sides are a nice crinkle finish white.
The normal cycle doesn't smash too well but the extended cycle does a fantastic job -- unfortunately there is no built in timer so you have to use a timer if you want to stop the extended cycle at the recommended 30 minutes. We use the one on our microwave.
Other than that though it does a great job. We get almost 2 weeks of trash in one bag. And we used to carry...

I saw better reviews for the Kenmore than for the Kitchen Aid
which just had the foot plate bite the dust....when I got the new
Kenmore, you could tell it was made by the exact same manufacturer, just left the fan off the bracket, same foot plate and everything/ slightly different digital button on front rather than
rotary.....but was $100 less....otherwise, its the same thing!
I have wanted a trash compactor for many years, as my Mom
has one,the (same)one, for over twenty years now. I just LOVE
mine. It cuts the trash consumption in half..if not more, and it's
not only economical,but looks classy as well...with the stainless
steel/black design,it adds beauty to my kitchen,and takes care of the trash at the same time. What more can I ask for? :)
Compactor is not made as well as the previous two I have owned. The last one was 15 years old, worked great but was getting rusty so I watched for a sale online. It was priced well so I ordered. Two days later I received compactor, delivery went well, I slid it into the space in the cupboard. I noted that it was "tinnier" than the sturdy old one. But it looks nice and works fine. Actually my compactor is one of those appliances, I wouldn't live without!!!
Just beware of prices in red....print the web page of the item description and price. I didn't and it didn't come up when I attempted to get...

We purchased this as a replacement for a Kenmore compactor that froze up after 21 years. The technology doesn't appear to have changed much - this one's much nicer looking - so I'm looking forward to the next 21 years.
I would have never considered purchasing a compactor but our home had the old Kenmore installed. It's an appliance that you soon can't figure out how you lived without. Ours will pay for itself relatively quickly as we pay for a smaller trash receptacle and pickup each month from our waste management company. SO FAR IT'S GREAT. I LIKE THE FOOT PEDAL AND IT WAS EASY TO INSTALL. SOME GOOD INFO: IF YOU HAVE AN AMERICAN EXPRESS CARD, USE IT TO BUY APPLIANCES. THEY GIVE AND EXTENDED WARRANTY OF ONE YEAR OVER THE MANUFACTURER'S WARRANTY. YOU'RE WELCOME..
We love this compactor. We have had another family move in with us and it has generated so much more trash that we had to order another trash can. Now we barely fill up the original can and only empty the compactor about every three or four days. It's great! We are using it as a convertible now but are planning to install in cabinets. We are happy with this wonderful product. Thanks for making such a great item.
I have three children and always had four bags of trash a week. Now I am down to one and a half bags. Great product;however, the Sears I use NEVER has the bags in stock.
We purchased this compactor a little over a year ago. It has really been great. No more stacked pizza boxes or other large boxes till you go to the landfill. Even though I still have to break them down to fit in the compactor it is well worth it. We go to the landfill once every 2 months now versus twice a month. When the extra pack feature is used it is amazing just how much you can compress. Christmas and Birthdays are better too. Just put all those boxes and paper in and the mess is gone. Oldest grand daughter loves to use it even if you sometimes have to help her step on the pedal to open it....
