Our family has been very rough on this machine.  While it was not made to wash the olive seeds or other hard nuts the machine has been a work horse.  Having said this we needed to call for the repair and the service folks were helpful.

The warranty costs are not worth the need which will usually be...

Never again

We bought a Kenmore 18 inch built-in five years ago when we moved into this house. NEVER AGAIN. The bottom rack has almost rusted away. I ordered a replacement and got a rack that is too narrow. It keeps falling off the rails. Trying to get help from Sears was very frustrating. For several weeks, they... read full review »

Kenmore 18&#34 Built-In Dishwasher (1440) Reviews

This was the first dishwasher I ever purchased and it's been 2 years, still happy.  We purchased the white version.  The plastic at the top has a rougher texture to the surface which does lend itself to picking up grime, but it cleans up quickly.  All the controls are analog, which I prefer actually.  We set our wash setting the first time and have never touched those selection controls since. The interior is solid, stainless steel, cleans well.  Installation was a snap.

It runs quietly.  We do have to rinse and scrub a bit at really dense or dried food remnants on the plates or we find...

TERRIBLE!

I have had this dishwasher for 2 years. We ran it once a day. It is loud and the shortest wash cycle takes forever! It started making this horrible noise like and airplane taking off. Well now it is broke! I need to decide whether it is worth fixing or better off replacing. Save your money and buy another brand.

When we moved to this home it already had an older Kenmore dishwasher.  It lasted another six years and when it was time to replace it we decided on this one. We installed it ourselves without any trouble. I guess it could be quieter but it is much quieter than our old one. It cleans the dishes well. The cycle does take 2hrs or so. I like the delayed start so it can start after we go to bed. This is a great option for those with limited space or small family. Although, we are a family of four and this has plenty of room.

I purchased this dishwasher a little over a year ago as I have a very small kitchen and needed to save some space.  Although it was a costly dishwasher I decided to purchase it as I was tired of doing dishes by hand.  Well I must say I should have just kept doing them by hand as that's what I am now doing a little over a year after purchasing.  About 6 months after installing this dishwasher I began having trouble with the soap not being rinsed out of the washer.  Either it would just be globbed down the door or in the case of using the little packets, it would only be half dissolved.  Finally...

I regret this purchase!!!

I owned by first Kenmore dishwasher for over 20 years, so I expected the same quality from this product. I was SO wrong. This machine is loud. I have to rewash glasses because food is left inside them. Although it is the same size as my first washer, I cannot get as many dishes in it. I really regret buying this product!!

I moved into an apartment in May that has this dishwasher installed in all its units.  It's horrible.  I'm one person and I can't fit more than plates, cereal bowls and glasses in this.  One item larger than anything found in a standard place setting will screw the whole wash off and leaves almost everything dirty which means i have to hand wash it all.   I could have just done that to begin with.  So forget about putting the bowls you prepared dinner in and all your pots and pans in. I would rather have a starndard size dishwasher and less cupboard space.  If there's any landlords or designers/developers...

Really Bad

After only six months, the pump grew increasingly louder until it was unbearable. Had the pump replaced (after much hassle) and now a couple months later it is getting louder and louder. This dishwasher started out so quiet! I was in love with it. Now after less than a year (and $600) I can't wait to get rid of it. Avoid this product!

I purchased the Kenmore 18 in. Built-In Dishwasher w/ Stainless Steel Interior eight months ago. From the moment it was installed, I knew this was a rink-a-dink dishwasher. This morning I found the upper spray arm broken off the top rack. It appears that the "all plastic spray arm" broke off from it's plastic connector during use.

It feels cheap, the racks are flimsy, it's all plastic inside, and nothing about it feels like a sturdy, quality product. If you are someone with a heavy hand, or you have children who might add dishes to the dishwasher, this isn't the product for you.

My other complaint...

Holds a Lot, Not As Quiet as I'd Hoped

One of the first times we used our new 18" dishwasher, my wife and I had six visitors over for dinner. Granted, we served BBQ so there were fewer serving dishes. But everything fit. Glasses, plates, service plates, silverware. Even our gigantic cutting board fit (it took a few tries). So that's pretty awesome. The only downside might be that it's louder than I'd hoped it would be. But we run it at night, and it's not a problem, even in our tiny house.

Perfect fit and quiet, too.

We did a slight remodel of our 24 year old kitchen by getting new appliances, a new counter top, new tile flooring and reconfiguring our existing cabinets to create a larger island. We have never had a dishwasher before, so this was an adventure in shopping for the perfect fit. We only had 18" to work with and this wonderful little gem fit the bill. It cleans wonderfully, dries completely and makes a soothing kind of noise. We have had to fit dishes in it for a party of at least 12, plus glasses and silverware and everything fit nicely. We have nothing to compare it to and chose it based on its... read full review »

Great Product

Took a little getting used to an 18 inch dishwasher but it really works great. It washes just as well as my previous full size dishwasher and is no louder. It will even fit my larger pots if I am feeling too lazy to hand wash. The stainless steel interior is a plus for looks. I would highly recommend.

Great small Dishwasher !

Live in small apt. Replaced 18in Kenmore( +20 years old), this new one is EXTREMELY QUIET !!! Washes plenty of dishes quite well, easily. Stainless steel is very nice too on inside. My neighbors on both sides are planning n replacing their 18 in Dishwashers soon....They were amazed too how quiet compared to theirs. Very pleased with it.

Glad that it cleans things a bit better than my old machine but it's by no means perfect. I still see stains on dishes sometimes.

Peculiar that the manual doesn't explain anywhere how the time delay works.
