The Kenmore HE (High Efficiency) front loading 3.5 cubic foot washer is very quiet, water efficient, and does a great job at cleaning clothes. It's a good deal at about $600 or so on sale, especially considering how much you can stick into it at once. Compare it to other front loading models based on price and this one is a real winner. You don't need all the fancy features that other models offer, this one offers what you really need. It has features such as spin speed, different fabrics (wool, sport, heavy normal, perm press etc), extra rinse... all the stuff you use everyday.
Things to know about front loaders:
Ensure that any drain holes at the front do not get plugged up with hair or water will leak out the front.
I like having the top available to put items on, unlike a normal top loading washer.
If you have back problems, or problems getting up from a squat position, considering elevating front loading washers. Although this won't help you much when loading the wet clothes (but they come out dryer than a top loader in general) into the front loading dryer.
They require HE detergents quite frequently. But these are now generally available.
They are effective at drying clothes. You will use less electricity for your dryer!
Please note that the pictures in this review show an elevated washer. The pedestal is about 1 foot (30 cm) tall in this image.
