The dehumidifier I bought ran for a little over a year, then gave up. Lasted long enough to use up the warranty. Since there was no way I could see to make it worse, I took it apart to see if it was something simple. It wasn't. The compressor runs, gets warm, but the cold line never gets cold, like it is supposed to. It is shot!
Interesting note: The compressor has a sticker on it that saying: LG Electronics.
Note to self: Never buy anything made by LG Electronics again.
We live in a little 2 bedroom house about 1/2 mile from the ocean and use the dehumidifier constantly through the winter & rarely in the summer. The first unit lasted through 2.5 winters but stopped working during a particularly bad week of fog and rain so we went & bought another unit. The second unit didn't even make it through 1 winter. This time around we are going to try a different brand with a larger pint capacity. This unit is probably great for light users but just couldn't keep up with our particular demands.
Huge Rip-Off Kenmore name is quickly going downhill!!!
Shot ***** in less than a year. I can remember when Kenmore meant quality, those days are gone. I also noticed my electric bill jumped after I started to use it.
I saw that the Kenmore came with a 5-year parts-only warranty on the refrigeration system. I did NOT buy the Protection Agreement. Three and a half years later, and it, too, has stopped taking moisture out of the air. I always clean the coils and filter, as required. In hindsight, maybe that Protection Agreement was worth the extra $59.
During the 42 months it DID work, it did a wonderful job.
It was noisy, almost as if bolts or screws weren't tightened somewhere, even though they were. I had it in my 24x24 basement in Pennsylvania that I used as a computer repair shop. I usually turned it off...

The first unit lasted ~10+ years in a basement workshop. When it lost its freon charge, I decided it was time for a new unit. The next one lasted about 3 years, until the fan motor failed. After replacing the failed fan motor, I discovered that the old fan motor had failed because the freon charge was leaking out causing the evaporator to freeze up which in turn caused high load on the fan. Local HVAC gut said not worth searching for leak and recharging. Cost less to just replace the unit. No problem, OK, I got a bad unit, so...
read full review »I purchased a 35 pint Kenmore dehumidifier in July of 2008. During my purchase I declined the extended warranty under my false belief that if anything were to occur it would be within the first few months. I used this unit from July to November of 2008 and again from May to August 10th of 2009. This unit started making loud noises and then started tripping the circuit breakers. I returned the unit to the store and as I suspected there was nothing they could do without charging me since I had owned it 1 month outside the product warranty period. Kenmore products at one time would last for years,...
read full review »I live on the first floor of a home with a dirt basement and my apartment is often quite humid. I have a window A/C unit which helps, but the place was still humid. I purchased this 35 pint unit one month ago and it's doing a great job so far. I have it centrally located in the dining room and it has been working great. It makes as much noise as any other dehumidifier I've owned so I wouldn't say it's better or worse in that respect. And like other dehumidifiers it does does throw off some heat when run constantly, but again, so has every other one I've owned.
It rolls around fine on...
read full review »This was my first Kenmore, and of course it worked fine for a season, but then in the second summer the compressor failed after a week or so. I thought perhaps I had bought too weak a model (35 pts for a damp 700 square ft basement), so I next bought the Kenmore 50-pint in the hopes that the compressor would run less often and not fail. But the same thing happened! I will now avoid Kenmore appliances.
We purchased the Kenmore Dehumidifier 35 Pint to place in our cellar where our geothermal unit is housed. The electronic part of the geothermal cannot stand humidity. So far, it is working out great!
