autoregen does not work

Kenmore 350 Series Water Softener —

I have the same problem as apple**: The automatic regeneration has failed more than once. And since I have a 40 gal hot water tank, when it fails it takes days to sense the failure and then days to recover to soft water again after I initiate a manual regen. Is this a design flaw? I agree with apple** that the displays are inadequate. I would be nice to have a bar that depletes in concord with the charge depletions as the water is used. At least then we would have a heads-up if the unit fails. I hope you fix it with the next engineering change. I bought my last Sears softener in 1988. That unit had a mechanical timer but I could work with it. Now everything is hidden except for a few buttons but no forewarning when the buttons should be pushed.
