I have always heard negative things about big-box store water softeners, but I think the quality has come a long way in the last decade. We have had this water softener for about 4 years, and we have not had a single problem yet. It consumes very little salt and does a great job. All faucets are clean,... review »

I have the same problem as apple**: The automatic regeneration has failed more than once. And since I have a 40 gal hot water tank, when it fails it takes days to sense the failure and then days to recover to soft water again after I initiate a manual regen. Is this a design flaw? I agree with apple**... review »

Very satisfied with this product, works great and uses very little salt at a 35 grains per gallon hardness setting. New installation and installed myself. Had three leaks on threaded fasteners, PVC, when using teflon tape. Switched to pipe dope and no leaks. My theory is the Chinese fittings now supplied at hardware store. I had my doubts about the "O" ring seals on the bypass valve, but they did not leak at all. I also had the problem of the unit regenerating during the day instead of the default 2:00 am, but just check the manual under Faceplate Timer Features and disable IntelliSoft Feature,... review »

We have had this softner for about 3 days, and it has made a huge difference in the quality of our water! I am using a lot less soap, laundry detergent etc.. We had problems with iron and other sediments and this water softner has completly solved the problem. No more discolored clothes! It was easy to install, it took my husband less than an hour. We have several friends/family who went with some of the specialty water softner companies and spent thousands on a system, only to have problems and huge service bills. After much research we decided on this system because of the reviews and the price,... review »

We just replaced our old Kenmore softener with the 350 series. The replacement setup was perfect no problems. Wished they won't have changed the bypass valve setup(the adapter was to long to fit on the water pipe), we just used the old bypass valve. We had the first unit for 10 years, never had a problem until it died. We didn't even consider anything but a Kenmore. We have been very happy with the first one and don't expect anything less with this one.

My late 90's Kenmore softener developed a crack in the resin tank. Luckily I noticed this right around the year-end sale time, so off to Sears for a replacement. The new unit fit the existing plumbing exactly, so replacement was a breeze. Now, my only complaint, since I bought the closest match to the old unit's capacity, is that the 350 has no tank light and does not display water flow numerically. The new features, extended cleaning and the 97% recharge, are not of much use to me so they will be disabled. The 350 looks almost identical to the old unit internally, so I expect after 7-8 years that... review »

This is our third Kenmore water softener since 1979. The first one had a rotary dial and gobbled salt. The second one still gobbled salt, but had a lighted display that warned when it was going to "regenerate tonight." The current one has been on duty for several months, uses far less salt but no lighted display. There's a place right under the time for it to tell when it's going to "regenerate tonight" or "now," but I've never seen it come on automatically. All we get is hard water, suddenly, and with no indication that the softener has any plans to regenerate any time soon. Doesn't happen all... review »

I have always used products that I have purchased from Sears. The products have all been very dependable, durable and have lived up to my expectations. Sears has always stood behind their products and has been there to answer questions and sell spare parts for the products they sell even if the product is ten years old. All of these are the reasons that I made the decison to purchase the Water softner from you. I was a little disappointed with installation charges since the description of the standard installation matched my current intallation pretty closely. when the installer arrived he informed... review »

My city water hardness is @ 24. I bought this softner after I bought a dishwasher. The dishwasher would have been destroyed in less then a month if I did not install this. The connections are plastic, so if you are a do it yourselfer, and not that confidant in your plumbing skills, you may want to be sure to get the flex hose for installation.

Great unit only marred by the fact that installation (new install) cost as much as the unit itself. Sears price of $180 is a joke. It cost me an additional $280 to get this unit installed in a simple install scenario. Buy the unit, but get it installed by someone else!

Good softener for the price. However, our medium capacity Kenmore unit lasted only 3 1/2 years.

We have had Sears water softeners for many years. However we recently moved to a house that had an old Culligan unit. It used a lot of salt. We replaced it with this Sears softener and after over a month the salt tank is still 3/4 full. By this time the Culligan would have used 4 bags of salt. I appreciate the LCD display but like a few of the other reviewers I would have liked an illuminated display. I have to use a flashlight to check the settings. I had the unit installed by the Sears installer and was hit by an additional charge of $250. It was not a simple installation as I had the water heater... review »

We needed a new softener and the salesman asked us about the size of our household and our water usage. He then narrowed down our needs and helped us to pick the correct softener to match our needs and did not try to sell us something bigger and therefore, more expensive. We purchased this softener and installed it ourselves. The directions were easy to follow and the installation went smoothly. The information was easy to input on the panel and it has worked smoothly from day one.

Have not used it for very long --only a month or so--but absolutely no problems thus far. Water is hard here--all taken care of , salt use is down from from my old unit. Durabilility is questionable but won't know that for 10 years. Definitely recommend the product.

We had a 12-year old Kenmore water softener that finally decided to give up the ghost earlier this year.  Since we were so impressed by how well our previous Kenmore worked, we decided we'd head to Sears to see what they had available.

Truth be told, water softeners haven't changed much over the years.  They are still the same basic design and work pretty much the same way.  We found out, much to our relief, that the water softeners from Kenmore can re-use the existing fittings!  We thought we'd have to get a plumber out to hook this thing up -- but nope, it fit perfectly on the old fittings. ...
