This is a good water softener. When my last one bit the dust after about 15 years, I called to have the same company replace it. The flush valve had corroded and was no longer operable. For that, he quoted about $3000. Another company quoted nearly $4000. That was money I just didn't have. I then remembered that Sears sold water softeners and ended up buying the Model 370.
I installed it using the 3 valve configuration, which was a little extra work, but gave a larger flow path for the water than the supplied valve, as well as a simple method of bypassing the softener for maintenance. ...
read full review »I've had this water softener for about 8 months now. I've never had any issues with it. I installed it myself (after renting a pex crimper for the water lines) and had no problems. The instructions are very clear. I followed all the instruction and even sent it into a cleaning mode with bleach just after installing it. I noticed instant results around the house. Hard water spots disappeared in the shower, sinks and kitchen.
This water softener (the 370 series) is made for 1 inch pipes, but can be piped down to 3/4 inch pipes. However, the connection lines to the house pipes do not...

Since purchasing our Kenmore Water Softner 370 Series, we've noticed that we have to use less shampoo and conditioner. Our town has really hard water and now we don't have to deal with it. It's very efficient and when our daughter visits she always remarks on how much she loves our soft water. I would highly recommend this Water Softner to those looking for a great solution to their hard water problems.
Just installed this softener yesterday. Set-up went well, but there are a few points worth noting. First, although the valve sizes are somewhat larger, they taper to one inch size almost immediately upon exit from the softener valves. Thus, I question the true value of the larger valve(s). Secondly, the valves are plastic, and subject to cracking if too much torque is used in set-up. As such, we chose to tighten all connections before inserting the adaptors into the valve receptacles. Once we had everything tightened, we inserted the adaptors, with pipes attached (and tightened) into the female...
read full review »This was a replacement water softener for me. The resin bed on my 10-year old unit had turned to goo. Rather than try to replace the bed, which woould have cost about $100, I decided to buy a new unit that I hoped would be more sparing in the consumption of pellets. I prefer potassium (kcl) pellets, and they are over three times as expensive as salt.
I was attracted to the Series 370 water softener after reading some consumer testing publications. It was rated best, yet half the price of competing products. It also features an automatic adjustment for the use of potassium chloride pellets....
read full review »Purchased this water softner on the recommendation of a coworker. Went in to the Sears store and the salesman didn't try to sell me anything that I didn't need. Bought this unit and the installation from a local contractor working for Sears and the sofner was at least a thousand dollars less installed than one of the water softner specialty companys in my town. The installer was right on time and did a great job. I am very staisfied. We have been using potasium chloride in this softner and are pleased.
