Power Miser 12 is unreliable at 2 years old, pilot goes out.

Kenmore 40 gal. Tall Natural Gas Hot Water Heater (33147) —

I had written a review here, the old sears site, only to have it removed. It seemed that Sears didn't want anyone to know about the inherent problems and how to fix them yourself and circumvent their repair service.

At about two years old my Power Miser 12 had to be re lit 2 or 3 times a day. Sears customer service was no help. All they wanted to do was charge me for a service tech call. I am quite handy, so I disassembled the unit and tested the very few components. Everything tested fine. Still Sears wanted to send out a tech.

The pilot light would go out a few times a day. I had to set my alarm 1 hour earlier everyday to go down and relight the pilot. I searched the internet for 4 days looking for some info as to why this was happening to a unit with no faulty components. Mind you, I paid big money getting the Power Miser 12 rather than the 9 or 6. My old Power Miser 6 lasted 11 years and never had one problem until the tank started leaking. So I thought the 12 would go 20 years... or so I thought.

If you find yourself relighting the pilot several times a day, week, month, I have the solution if you have some basic tools, a double dose of common sense, and a touch of tenacity.

Just email me and I'll send you a simple fix for your big problem.

The last time I posted the fix, Sears deleted it

My KPM 12 pilot went out after 8 months. No amount of retakes using the panel instructions can reignite the stupid thing, and I paid for installation at an astronomical cost. What did you do???? Can you send repair info please.

I got access to my acct. back. I have not been quick in responce to emails lately. Thanks to all who have followed up with a reply regarding their individual experience. This has helped broaden the knowledge base and keep the money in your pockets... not spent on unnecessary service calls.
I believe in "paying it forward". We all can help our fellow beings if we just try.
