Before buying this unit, I had a Frigidaire 5,000 BTU air conditioner. Because of my small window size, I needed something really portable. Unfortunately, I wasted my money on the Frigidaire first when I should have bought the Kenmore. Besides the Kenmore being cheaper, it's overall a better unit. It's... review »

If you want to throw away a hundred bucks, buy this unit! I purchased this unit in June of this year (2008). Got it home and installed it with no problems. The first 4 weeks it performed flawlessly. I have the unit in the window of a 12' by 15' room and, at first, it kept the room cool very nicely. Now... review »

This unit works very well. I wish I had known, that the fan runs all the time, I'm not crazy about that.

I bought this unit in Texas right after Hurricane Rita. That was one of the hottest summers I've been through. My landlord didn't repair the duct work for my central air in my appartment. So, my bedroom was always hot. When I installed this unit and ran it all night, there was so much fog on the windows of my bedroom you could't see out of them. Plus, me and my wife had to sleep with blankets on the bed. I reccomend this unit for a small room and I reccomend you get the service plan when purchasing. After two years of operation the coolant will need to be recharged by a technician. Over all, excellent... review »

We bought this for our 10' by 10' bedroom. Cools the room but is VERY loud. This is primarily due to a noisy compressor.

Not really happy with this a/c unit and looking for a replacement. I bought it at the end of the season last lear and placed it in my storage. Well when I got it out to use it, to my surprize it had been returned before from what I could see. There were little cracks on the sides and it is so noisy I can't sleep with it. I am sorry to loose the $106.00 but it's better than putting up with the noise. I will never make the same mistake again.

We bought 3 of these units when the a/c for our house went out so we could keep our house reasonably comfortable until our central a/c was replaced. We have a 2600sq ft 2 story house, we put 2 of these downstairs and 1 upstairs along with plenty of fans to help circulate the air. I was very impressed that these three 5000 btu units were able to keep our whole house comfortable.

Best window air conditioner I've purchased because it cools quickly, operates quietly, and cools more square footage than the manufacturer specifies. My apartment is 650 sq. ft. and it keeps it cool enough during hot weather with Mode/Temp knob set at the midpoint (5) or below. Great A/C for the price!

During a hot period I ended up buying two units to cool down our bedrooms. In about 20-30 minutes it was down right friged in our rooms, so that was good. Before I left for work I opened the bedroom doors to allow the air to get around our place, with the assistance of some fans. Worked like a charm. Now for the annoyance.... One of the units gets a little loud, so I have to pop off the filter cover so it doesn't vibrate. Otherwise, no problems with that unit. The other unit ended up collecting water. Not sure how as it was draining properly, but when you would turn on the unit it would be loud... review »

I bought this unit yesterday to prepare for the long hot humid week ahead. We only had $100.00 to spare so I bought this because it was in our range, and a good namebrand. It is light so it was easy to get home. Installation took 30 minutes and was simple. This unit is MONEY! My bedroom was cool in about 10 min. It's the same amount of noise that a fan would make on low. I slept cool as a cucumber last night! I will be getting another one next payday for sure.

I live in a basement with no AC and for years during the summer needed dehumidifiers. When replacing a casement window I upgraded and used a smaller than normal window. this AC unit really should not be used for the entire large basement but it not only cools the room I sleep in completely down but it also dehumidifies the entirement. As for the loudness of it, It is acceptable. The first one I bought died two days after getting it but one call and a trip later had the second. Three yrs later no issues. I would recommend for a living room. Also it is light weight enough that 3 weeks after having... review »

I am not really sure what to say about these air conditioners. I own three of these units. All three of them cool the air wonderfully. I bought them two or three years ago and they are still running strong. I run them pretty much 24/7 during the summer. They cool a much bigger area than intended but since moving into my new home one leaks water. We also have standard size newer windows. I also have a problem with getting them to fit in my window. It says they are supposed to fit up to a 35 inch window but they do not. I had to put them in my smaller windows that are 29 inches and they are pretty... review »

5 year warranty on sealed parts and it ONLY lasted 2 seasons. Based on others here, that is not unusual. Called Sears and they said it would be about a month (middle of July) before they could look at it. They said it was a $50 service call. If the tech determines it is the sealed system, no charge. Other wise it is $50 plus cost of repair. Ummm it was only about $80 on sale. That makes the warranty a role of the dice based on a tech's opinion. Just consider it to be a short life throw away air-conditioner that will probably make it 2 seasons or more with Luck. Noise is not to bad.

My central air was down, of course during one of the hotest times so far this year. I had to do something. Looked online at Sears, found this unit ON SALE and it said I could order and pick up at store. I ordered and figured it would take a day or two before I could pick it up. I was shocked that within ONE HOUR, they sent an email to pick it up! Got it home, very, very simple to install, cooled the room fast. Normal sound for a 'window shaker'. Filter door does vibrate sometimes, but no problem to adjust. Great product, great store.

I have always put my faith in Kenmore appliances and our choice for this air conditioner was no exception. It's hard to be productive when you are dealing with heat. Our office needed to be cooled down to a comfortable level. Our air conditioner didn't disappoint us. Not only is it lightweight, compact and easy to install, it is also very attractive and does its job. Another smart purchase from Sears.
