I bought a similar model a few years ago and it is great. I can run it in my bedroom consistantly in the hot days of the summer and it barely changes our power bill at all. The one that I purchased also had a remote control which is a great feature if you get cold in the night. As always Kenmore makes...

New age junk

I had this same model about 6 years back,  it worked for 5-6 years, and is the 1st air conditioner to last me over a year.  When the unit's fan motor went out.  I made up my mind to buy the same model, i got my new one on 01/26/10,  when unboxing the first thing i noticed, was the once metal...

Kenmore 5,000 BTU Single Room Air Conditioner Reviews

Our main A/C went out in the house and we needed something fast but not too expensive. It was towards the end of the summer and other Home improvement stores were only selling the combo units of heating and air. This model was easy to install (this being our first we were very surprised). It cooled off the main bedroom and then we used fans in a relay form down the hallway to cool off the rest of the house.  Surprisingly it did work to make the rest of the house bearable without taking away much of the coolness from the main bedroom it was in.

I watched several videos on how to install a window...

Great A/C.  Bought because our central A/C went on the fritz.  They're temporary, but have already run well to cool bedrooms (I bought 2 of these) the last several weeks.  I have storm windows and used a 2x4 plus 1/4" plywood as base.  My full 35" windows have maxed out the side panels, but they did cover!  Well packed, straightforward home installation.

The fan and compressor on high are noticeable, like white noise on the television with the volume set midway.  You can still hear and have conversations, even phone calls but its noticeable.  Not bad for sleeping though.

The weather has...

This air conditioner is exactly what I needed for my bedroom. My bedroom is on the west side of my old  ( meaning little to no insulation) apartment and it catches the sun from noon until sunset. I live in West Texas and we have very, very hot summers. I would go to bed some nights and my bedroom would be 80 degrees and I cannot sleep in heat. By putting this little unit in my bedroom, the temp is now around 70 degrees at night, without turning the big unit down to 60.

I do want to warn you that it is a little harder to install than it looks. It didn't quite fit my window, but a little duct tape...

Great Value

We purchased this unit last summer for use in our horse trailer. We used it in the window as it was light weight and easy to install or remove in minutes. It ran easily with our generator and was a lot less expensive than the ceiling heat/air units for trailers. Kept us cool on hot days and nights for about 4 weekend trips.

As air conditioners go, this has to be one of the better ones I've bought...and I've bought several in the last few years. I definitely recommend it over other brands like Haier, since they've put in automatic settings that make the air conditioner not cool when it is below 50 outside. I hate that...just because it is cool outside doesn't mean it is cool inside. I am also a fan of Kenmore products. My parents always bought Kenmore from the time I was very young, and they still buy them now. They are durable, well made, and work excellently. I've not found another brand that is better. This air... read full review »

I needed a small AC for a room in which my computer and a few peripherals are located. This was just the ticket, and a great bargain too. The only thing I found exasperating was the directions. They're sparse and need to be carefully read more than once. There are no explanations about the expandable side curtains. There's no explanation on how to put the evaporation drain pipe into the unit frame. It merely says be sure to insert it; not there is a rubber washer on part so you must exert a good deal of pressure on the drain pipe while screwing it into the base pan bottom. Otherwise, the unit...

Reviews were pretty accurate concerning this air conditioner.  It does rattle somewhat, but a little tape will take care of that.  I found this item to be very affordable, easy to install (it takes no time to put it in), and easy to operate.  I'm not a stickler about where the vents direct the air as long as it cools the room and this unit actually cools off a couple of rooms.  Between this unit and another larger unit, I am able to cool off my whole apartment and I don't have to wait forever to feel the cooler air.

Anyone that may be looking for more than what this air conditioner does, should...

I'm happy with this sucker.

I bought the Kenmore 5000 BTU air-conditioner last week because it was affordable, and light enough that I could carry it home and install it myself (it's about 25ish pounds, but I only had to walk a couple blocks).

After a particularly miserably hot day in my apartment, I originally intended only to buy a better fan; after checking several stores though, most of the decent ones were coming up around $50-$75.  I just figured, if I was going to have to spend a chunk of change, why not get something that would actually cool the air instead of just wafting the gross hot...

I got this air conditioner for my parents, because they needed a new one for their bedroom.  It works great so far.  They have also placed a fan near the unit to circulate some cool air into the hallway.  I think this is a great deal if you need something for a small room.  Mom says it's great!

Good for the money!

It was simple to install, doesn't seem - to me - to be noisy like some stated but it is definitely for really small rooms only.
I have a F.R.O.G. that originally had a AC/heating unit in one that went out and since I didn't have $2K to replace it, decided on this unit. It does cool the room but it's not ice cold like the bigger unit but that's to be expected. It keeps the room cool enough that the stifling southern heat and humidity is tolerable. For the money, it's worth it. If you have a room bigger than the average size bathroom, I'd spring for a larger unit cuz this one won't cool it properly....

Excellent value

In terms of BTU's for the buck you can't beat it. I've had mine for about a month and I'm going to get 3 more instead of a 15,000BTU unit for 5 times as much. As far as durability I don't know yet, but the compressor is made by LG (you can see their logo on the sticker if you look through the vents) and they are highly rated for quality/durability. Yes, it does make noise. I don't have a problem with it. It's not as loud as some other reviewers make it out to be (they make it seem like it's as loud as a jet engine). If you need a really quiet unit look elsewhere, otherwise I'd say go for it. Oh,...

Satisfactory

Bought this product after realizing my apartment doesn't have air conditioning. Was able to install by myself, never installed a unit before, in about 20min or so. Not nearly as noisy as I expected. Just a steady noise, can easily drown it out in less than 5 minutes. Says it's only really good for 100sqft. My room is 138sqft, cools within 20min, including the hallway and bathroom. Bought another for the living room after liking so much. It also reaches the kitchen. Incredibly easy to use, very lightweight, so I'm not worried about it falling or tilting. Definitely good for the money. I would...
