I like this A/C window unit a lot for it's price and features. I paid about $150 and this unit has an energy saving feature and is Energy Star rated. It is neither loud nor quiet - it sounds about the same as a 20" box fan. It is not the cheapest unit - there was one for $99 - but I liked this better for the style and the energy saving feature. I have two upstairs attic type rooms in an old house. There is minimal insulation in the ceiling and walls - if any at all.
I put this unit in the smaller room. The room faces west so it gets the full brunt of afternoon sun. The first day I didn't turn it...
read full review »This a/c was very easy to install, so easy that we tried making it more difficult than it was. It is very quiet. I am a light sleeper and it doesn't wake me ever. It's small but cools the large living room and kitchen quickly. For the price I like the many features on it such as the energy save mode, timer for shut off and start up, adjustable fan direction. I like that the air filter is washable but would have liked to have a better air filter for allergen/ dust.
I didn't see the need for a remote but ends up being really nice in the middle of the night to adjust temperature without getting...
read full review »Overall, this is a great value. The price is great already but when you add the $20 mail-in rebate for it being an energy star product, it's an extra bonus. The fact that it is energy star is great too as it saves additional money long term. The product is very simple to use and actually produces a cooler air flow than some of the others I tested at the store. Great product, would recommend!
I don't ordinarily follow-up on unsatisfactory purchases, but in this case I truly felt the need to do so. I recently purchased the Kenmore 5,300 BTU Single Room Air Conditioner, model# 75051 to replace an a/c I had had for several years prior. The unit I had had was smaller than this new one, but cooled 100 times better than this one. I have to keep the thermostat all the way down to it's lowest setting - 60 degrees - in order to cool just my bedroom down to a livable temperature - and we're not even in the heart of summer yet! My old a/c even managed to cool down a good portion of the...
read full review »The Kenmore 5300 btu window air conditioner is a nice addition to our guest bedroom... It is clean looking & its appearance flows into the window setting... It seams to cool with a quiet sound as opposed to our last noisy air conditioner... I look forward to many years of use & to give our family & guests a comfortable atmosphere while in the room...
This A/C unit is very quiet compare to the past five A/C's I have purchased in the past. Also this unit cools more than one room. We will purchase another one of these units from Sears on-line for a room in our ranch house. I recommend this to friends. Sears on-line has the best price and it is easy to place the order and track it.
I bought this unit 5 years ago, and it's been just the ticket. Cools the top half of our 1 1/2 story house, allowing us to cut our usage of the central air. Our bedroom used to be an oven, and now we just turn on this little window unit when we come home, and the temperature is just right by bedtime. We rarely need to leave it on overnight.
One minor irritation: if we do leave it on overnight, the cycling on/off wakes me up. Energy saver mode is not the best option. But usually, I just turn it off.
It's a great value because I remember the days when air conditioners weighed over 100 lbs and were...
read full review »I see some reviews that say the A/C is loud and some say it is quiet. Well, maybe there are manufacturing variances because my two-week old unit is LOUD! And it's not just that it's fan-blower loud. The compressor pulsates loudly, the condensor fan pulsates and grinds like it's going to fly apart any minute, the front grill rattles intermittently - it's insane! I have another 6000 BTU (not much larger) Kenmore A/C that I bought 4 years ago and it's as quiet as can be. But not my new one, it's so loud you can clearly hear it in the next room.
On the pro side, it was cheap and easy to install. ...
read full review »I have had this air conditioner for over a year and am very satisfied. It is sufficiently powerful to keep a small-to-medium size room comfortable even in the summer. I was pleased with how compact the unit was, and installation was about as easy as any air conditioner. (Try to have someone to help with the install - trying to balance a chunk of metal and plastic in a window is never easy.) The unit does make a little noise, but much less than some other small units I have heard, and I really don't even notice it under normal circumstances. With a Kenmore it is nice to be able to have...
read full review »A great basic air conditioner at a good price. I had to replace an older a/c that died (it was a kemore also - lasted 14 years!). I have another of this unit that is several years old and haven't had any problems with it. Not a fancy unit (although it does have a remote)- but runs fairly quietly and keeps the room cool. It's also energy star complaint so qualified for a rebate from the electric company.
Installation was easy - but watch out for the cooling fins on the back - they are very sharp and draw blood easily.
I bought the Kenmore 5,300 BTU AC to install in a small practice studio. The install was easy and the unit so small I had no problem lifting it up to shoulder level. I packed insolation around it for soundproofing and sealed it on top and sides with high density particle board. I fired it up and was greeted with a whining fan and high pitched grind of the compressor. Reminded me of a dentist drill with wind effects. Man this puppy is loud! Did I mention it was loud? It only has 2 fan settings: low 'n irritating and high 'n maddening! Might be okay in a tool shed but not in a bedroom or music studio....
read full review »Had to get a new A/C when our old one quit in 100+ weather. This unit is so quiet and gets the room cool in half the time our old one did! Love that the air can be directed upwards or wherever you want so that it's not blasting at someone directly if that's not wanted.
In a 10'x14' room with 6 desktop computers, a 26" TV, 2 DVD recorders, a stereo amp and a VHS player, this A/C will easily keep the room at 66 degrees even with strong summer sun streaming in the south window!!! I keep the place like a meat locker. I don't know how low it will go. I've never tried but it seems to just cruise at 66 degeres with power to spare.
I am on my 3rd year with this A/C. It is showing NO signs of slowing down, not cooling as much, needing a freon charge, nothing. As long as you keep the REUSABLE, REPLACABLE, WASHABLE filter clean it cools as good as the day I bought...
