We have several other room A/C units, none compare to this unit. When I first installed it in a second-floor bedroom, I went outside to make sure it was secure. I couldn't hear anything from ~12 feet away, so I went in to turn it back on, and it was already running. You can hear the compressor kick in... review »

MY PROBLEM WITH THIS UNIT IS MAINLY WITH THE 'ENERGY SAVER' CONTROL AND THE 'COOL' CONTROL. IN THE 'COOL' MODE THE FAN RUNS CONTINUOSLY AND THE COMPRESSOR IS INITIATED BY THE THERMOST TEMPERATURE SETTING, WHICH IS THE USUAL DESIGN. Works great, pretty quiet!

This is a great little unit, and is pretty quiet. We originally bought a Haier and it was so loud it kept me up all night, but this one has a steady low hum that is easily ignorable. I installed it myself (all 5', and 120lbs of me), using a little 12V cordless drill without any problems.

I own two of these, one for the bedroom, and another to support a large air conditioner in cooling two rooms connected with an archway and I have to say I really like this unit. In the bedroom it refrigerates the air very quickly and then maintains the temperature and humidity all night without any issues. The other one really fills in the extra necessary BTUs that the main A/C needs to cool my 80+ year old second story home. Wouldn't trade it for the world.

I purchased the air conditioner because I'm renting a small house with a friend of mine. The house was built so long ago that it has no central air. I have terrible asthma so I needed something at least in my room. So far this window air conditioning unit has been quite a steal! It is quiet and install was very simple. Overall, a great buy!

I was looking for a quiet AC for my 400 ft apt and for around $100. I had bought Haier BTU5200 and Samsung BTU 6000, bot of them I have to return them. HAIER was EASY INSTALL, BUT is really LOUD. Also, I have to turn it on for the whole day in order to keep the room cold. Samsung cools down the room much better, but not easy install (took me about 40 min) and not so quiet (but better than Haier). When I got this Kenmore, I was really impressed how easy it can be install (only took me 10 min) and it cool down my small apt in only 5 min. It is also the quietest. This window air conditioner is very quiet and is just right for my son's small room. It suits him just fine and he likes the remote control. I would purchase this item again. We are very satisfied.

I read that this was loud but didn't think it could possibly be this bad. I was wrong. Maybe it is because my bed is right under the AC but it is just so loud. I cannot watch TV at all without buying headphones so I can hear the TV (turned to the loudest volume). It cools very good and my room is about 12' X 14' room. I would recommend it to a friend but to be sure to tell them that it is very loud!

I purchased one yesterday at Sears on 8/10/2009 and brought it home and installed it.  It was the 5300 BTU model and I was very pleased with it.  It was not difficult to handle or install and definitely like to froze me up.  I plan on purchasing another one for my garage when they go onsale.

I've had this a/c unit for just three days and I'm pretty disappointed. When I left my old apartment I couldn't bring along my old, inexpensive 5000 btu a/c, which had been performing flawlessly good cooling, easy to install, QUIET. The only way you knew that that unit was on was by feeling the cool draught. This Kenmore does a decent job cooling but is extremely loud for its size. Every time the compressor kicks in there's a loud rumble and then a pretty loud, consistent hum. After a while, the loud hum does become background noise but that means I can't use the Energy Saver function if I'm trying... review »

This air conditioner gets the job done.

For the price, you can't beat this single room air conditioner.  I needed to replace an aging unit which was mounted in a block wall, near the ceiling of a bedroom.  The old unit was loud and you needed something to stand on to reach the controls. 

It took me about 10 minutes to install this one, which is much quieter, and cools the room much better than the old one.  And the remote control means no more standing on a chair to reach the controls!  At night I use the low fan speed and can barely hear the unit at all, its perfect for sleeping.  Daytime I use the high fan speed, and its keeping...

wow, this little kenmore  air condition  packs a punch, cools down a small to medium sized room in no time and with  no problem, and the air is  noticeable a little colder than my old a/c unit, this unit is fairly quiet, i would not say very quiet for those who are sensitive to noises, it's just a tad bit quieter than most other a/c in fact i bought this one cause my other a/c was very noisy, this one is about half the noise. great a/c reallly surprised how it gets the job done, for just 5300 btu cooling capacity.love the energy saver feature.

I purchased this unit online with an in-store picup. That service was perfect. The unit was in my car in less than 15 minutes from my arrival at the store. The instructions should have had some warning about handling the unit, as I had to seat it, measure, remove, insulate and support, replace, level, etc. - I manged to bend some of the vents on the back and sides because I didn't know where allowed handling of thie unit was - I had to bench press it in and out, and I had to grab where I could to move it in and out.
