Kenmore 50 gal. Tall Natural Gas Hot Water Heater (33157) —
This model was advertised as having TWO large anode rods for protection against corrosion and long life. But when I received the unit, there was only one. It appears the manufacturer eliminated one anode rod as a cost cutting measure, and Sears failed to update the product description. The heater performs satisfactorly, but I wonder how much the lifespan has been reduced with one less rod? Final note: be sure to check for applicable rebates. I learned of the $35 installation rebate by accident.

The water heater has two anode rods one that is factory installed (primary anode) and a secondary anode rod is packaged with the heater to be installed at the time of installation in the hotwater outlet side of the heater, along with the hotwater outlet pipe nipple that is attached to the secondary anode.
