We purchased this washer after researching several models and brands, ultimately so confused with polar opposite opinions for every washer imaginable. We went with our gut, since the washer resides in the basement noise wasn't an issue. After a couple months the washer is quiet - except - when the washer... read full review »

I spent hours online reading reviews and checked Consumer's Reports. I printed, read and compared specs. When I went to use the washer, I discovered there was NO temperature selection for rinsing. If hot water is selected, the rinse is also hot, unless one manually changes the temp. after the wash water... read full review »

We have owned Sears Kenmore products for many years now, and have always been satisfied customers. The other day, the agitator wouldn't work on our old washer, but it was going on 15 years old, so, we got great service out it, and went back to Sears, once again, to purchase another one. We were fortunate enough to find a Kenmore 500 at $100 dollars off, because of the sale, and I was looking for a reliable washer, and a super capacity tub. It can handle a very big load of jeans and towels. Our laundry room is located right off of our kitchen and Master bedroom, and it isn't noisy. I mean anything... read full review »

My GE went after 7 years. After investigating Consumer Reports and looking at top loaders vs. front loaders, I decided to go with top. I was also on a budget. My GE was not a washer with frills, and I decided I didn't need all those extras. Just wash the clothes and do it well! I've always trusted Kenmore, and I found this one on sale for $399. I paid the extra $75 to have them deliver and install and take away the old one, and it was so worth it! Plus I get the money back via rebate. I wash about once a week and I love this washer! Sure, it's a bit loud for my taste, but I just shut the laundry... read full review »

I purchased the Kenmore 500 and thought it would serve my needs. The price was good and I have owned several Kenmore washers. I had a Kenmore Elite previously and loved it, however, the replacement cost was far more than I felt I should spend. I am disappointed in my new washer as it is very noisy and really does not change agitation speed on the delicate cycle. It does clean the clothes well, but I am considering returning it for a better model.

The repair man came yesterday and put in a new transmission. It's whisper quiet now! A warning to all you ones who are complaining about the noise, like I was, and then it went out: It's your faulty transmission! Now that I have a new one, it's great, and quiet!! I suspect that this model has transmission problems, because my machine was noisy from the git go, and now it's not. The repair man was fast and courteous!

I bought both the 500 washer and dryer online and picked up myself as well as installed myself. I do not do a lot of laundry being single but what I have done it does an excellent job. I know about the noise complaint on the reviews, but my laundry room is in the basement and I must listen carefully to hear it upstairs. I've owned the pair for 3 months and would highly recommend to others

I feel like I'm in a nightmare! Returned a new GE that needed mother board and transmission within 70 days, and had this Kenmore delivered on 3/14/09. The delicate agitation speed is the SAME as normal/heavy duty speed. This will eat my lace curtains!! Called Sears and they agreed it should be slower....repairman is coming. But do I really want a brand new washer that needs to be repaired? In general, it washed well, spun clothes pretty dry. And here in NJ the rinse is cold. (A law or something?) I'm undecided what to do now. A third machine? Or head to the river and do by hand..... I would give... read full review »

I don't know why some people reported a noisy machine and other's say it's quiet - but we got a NOISY one. It takes 35 minutes to wash what used to take 20 minutes. But it gets the job done.

I just purchased this machine in spite of reviews saying it would be noisey. Sure enough, it is noisey. It however does its job of washing clothes and is easy to use. Good thing it is in the garage with the noise it makes.

My 11 year old Hotpoint washer bit the dust last weekend. Spent a couple of hours on the web researching new washers including reviewing the Consumer Reports ratings. Top loaders, front loaders, high efficiency, steam...it seems every review had both positives and negatives. Almost went w/ the Samsung front loaders (great reviews) but was undecided about getting a front load machine as I am sensitive to detergent residue and they don't use a lot of water. Finally decided to go with this Sears Kenmore model (Kenmore White 500 3.5 cu. ft. Capacity Top-Load Washer) as I just wanted a basic reliable... read full review »

Well after 19 years we had to get a new washer. I went to sears site and saw all the great reviews that the sears 500 was getting. So decided to buy. Let me tell you what I was not dissappointed at all. My clothes r clean and I dont know why some of you are saying that this washing machine is loud. Compared to my old one this is one very quiet machine. Trust me if you are looking for a good reliable washer this is worth the price.

I have had no problems with this washer. I like that fact that it does not have all the bells and whistles such as others as that only leads to problems. I did not want a washer with a "brain" computer board as I have had nothing but problems with mother boards on appliances. This washer great with a large tub and cleans clothes nicely! We had it delivered and the delivery guys were wonderful and so helpful.

I have never seen a washer behave in the manner that this washer does. It was like a miniature rocket ship about to take off, especially during the spin cycle. The noise coming from the washer shook my entire townhome and you could hear the washer operating outside from the driveway, it was so loud! You will have to yell in order to talk over it. In addition, it shook so violently it knocked items off the shelves in the living room and kitchen and actually came out of the washer/dryer closet and had to be pushed back inside once it was finished. I obviously do not recommend this product. However,... read full review »

My wife and I just bought a 500 washer from sears. This washer is awesome and we are very pleased. I saw some reviews that said it was noisey. Not true!!! It is smooth, quiet and efficient. It knocks out a load in short order. The clothes are really dry when the spin is completed. I would highly recommend this unit for anyone. Price was right, quick delivery with delivery costs refunded. very professional delivery and setup. kudos to sears. my other sears washer was ten years old and we gave it to my son and he loves it. Thanks sears

I like loud. When it stops, I know it's ready for the dryer.
