Kenmore 6,000 BTU Single Room Air Conditioner —
I ordered this AC through Sears.com with free shipping. The unit arrived cracked.. (I blame UPS). Customer service offered to send UPS back to pick it up and then ship me a new one, I decided instead to drive to Sears in Yonkers NY and exchange it myself. They gave me awesome customer service, exchanged with no hassle. Came home, easily installed the bracket (you'll need a drill). The unit itself is pretty light and has carrying handles on the sides to make it easier to transport.
Performance - The AC runs great. Very, very quiet fan. I almost didnt realize it was on before I left to go out. It is slightly louder when the compressor kicks in, however, all AC's are like that. We keep it in the bedroom with us and the baby, and just so you know how quiet it is, we had it on all night and the baby slept like, well, a baby. Even when the compressor kicked in it wasnt that loud. I read reviews here where some people complain about the compressor being too loud, I suggest they move somewhere with central AC. All window AC's have loud compressors, this one isnt as bad. Also, it colls the room efficiently and maintains the temperature pretty well, the compressor turned on once maybe twice a night. I reviewed tons of AC's at PC Richard, Best Buy, Amazon, before I settled on this one. I owned a 6000btu Frigidaire and it sounded like an airplane was taking off, and that was just the fan. Also, another plus, the vents are on top, so the air blows up, very important because we have the baby in the bedroom and we didnt want the air blowing on him. I hope this review helps people who are considering using this in a room with a baby, I strongly recommend it.
