“Perfect 14 months later! ”
I have never written a review before so this in of it self should tell you how pleased I am with the unit. I purchased this June 2008. Installation is a simple matter of pulling it out of the box sitting it in the window and closing the window. Sure you can connect a mount and attach window locks but I didn't need to and love the fact I can put this thing away in 5 minutes.
Style - this unit is less than ½ an open window high and very modern looking. It sits out about 3 inches from the window sill. It easily blends into the room and can be hidden by curtains when needed. The unit protrudes about 8 inches from the outside of the house and is very quiet outdoors.
Function - I live in Dallas Texas so the summers are HOT. The unit cools my 15x15x12 room and attached bathroom which is downstairs. When its 100+ outside and the house A/C unit is off the downstairs will get to between 86 - 90 degrees. With the unit running it will cool the room and bathroom to 72-74. The unit has a timer so during the day I leave it off and it turns itself on about an hour before I come home and that's enough time to get in down to about 76.
Little Issue - The units plastic vent and cover can vibrate. I solved this easily with placing a small piece of insulation tape on the inside cover of the filter unit. To find out where the noise is coming from just press against the cover till it stops vibrating and put the tape (included with the unit) on it and close the cover. I also found the vent would vibrate a little. I took a cu-tip and placed it between the 2 vent areas and clipped the end off. This fixed the issue in 30 seconds and no one can see the cotton end of the cu-tip. Please remember my problems could have been the result of my 5 minute installation routine (not hard mounting the unit) but it was well worth it. I like the idea of removing the unit easily as I put it away from October - May and store it in my garage. It really is just a 5 minute setup every time.
Energy Usage - I plugged this into an energy tracking tool and this device runs at max cool on 557 watts. That's about 6 cents per hour (at a 12 cent a kilowatt hour rate). This keeps my bedroom at 72-74 degrees 15 hours a day for about $26 a month. By moving my thermostat up to 86 to the other areas of the house I am able to save almost $1000 between June and September on my electric bill. My electric bill for July (10 - 100+ degree days was $126). This unit really is fantastic at meeting my needs.
I hope this helps.
