Kenmore 6,000 BTU Single Room Air Conditioner —
I have central air but I like to sleep in a cooler environment, so I decided to get a small window AC to cool the bedroom down further for sleeping. My choice of widow AC units was limited due to having replaced my double hung windows with energy efficient windows having an opening space of only 13.5" height to work with. I saw this unit and decided to try it out. The unit was simple to install (but I had to be a little creative with shimming due to my windows). It is pretty quiet (about equal to a fan on medium speed). There is a lower frequency hum when the compressors kicks in, but that does not disturb my sleep. It has a nice energy saver feature that cycles the fan only about every 5 minutes, if the temperature is at or below setpoint, the fan shuts off, If the temprature is above setpoint, the fan stays on and the compressor kicks in until the setpoint is reached, then the cylce repeats itself over and over again. The air is discharged from the top of the unit and it is somewhat adjustable.
I don't know if I will ever use it, but the remote control is a nice little feature as well. This unit does a nice job of cooling with a low noise output nad a reasonable price. It gets a two thumbs up in my book.
