Most Helpful Favorable Review

I bought this unit in 2006 or 2007 and it's run fine ever since.  It's very, very quiet compared to other, newer units.

I was lucky on the installation, the window opening was exactly the size of this unit, so it slid right in.  I had 2 people helping, I'd never have been able to lift it myself. ...

Most Helpful Critical Review

I would give this a higher rating if the first air conditioner I brought home hadn't sounded weird and eventually smelled like smoke after running it for a few days.  Although I will say that the return process was very easy and I had a new one back at the house and running very quickly.

The replacement...

They don't make them like they used to... This is my second repair/maintenance call in which the service repair person was unable to solve problems with the unit.  1st call - April 2010- front grill rattles and unit rattles the windows. No repair done as unit is screwed into window frame so therefore un-adjustable...2nd call- July 2010 - A/C Unit blows a strong odor of mold...No repair just suggestion to use air freshener.  Please be aware that they (A/C Manufacturers) no longer have drain holes in their a/c units as this supposedly speeds up the cooling process (so that means water is sitting...

We have this unit setup at work, produces amazing amounts of cool air, and we have been running it for months almost 24 hours a day and its still going strong. Not sure about the energy savings, but this is a great unit for a pretty good price.

I bought the Kenmore 6,000 BTU Slider/Casement Air Conditioner to put in the window of my work shop. I had a regular style air conditioner that I could have installed but I would of had to remove the slider window and re-frame it for the other style or cut a hole in the wall and install it that way. I guess I should have done that, or got a different brand.

My shop isn't that big, 16' x 24' with an 8' celling. And this thing cant even begin to cool it down. If I let it get too hot inside before I turn it on or get there too late in the day and its already hot it cant catch up. And most...

I bought this a/c unit after years of suffering in a room that was not cooled due to out of date duct work in the home.  While the rest of the house was cool, my room was generally 10 degrees or more hotter than the rest of the house.  Bought the unit, and although pricey compared to units for "normal" sliding windows, there was little choice.  The installation was a pain.  The bracket used to install the unit on did not fit my window well and there had to be some pretty extensive modification on my part to make it fit.  After about four hours, the unit was in and on.  I can't really notice...

Excellent AC but Be Careful of Size

This is an excellent A/C, but be careful of the specifications regarding the size. The specs say that it will fit a window that has a 14.5-inch opening. After you purchase it, open the box and read the installation instructions you find that the instructions actually say it requires a 15.5-inch opening. With less than a 15.5-inch opening, you cannot use the kit to fill the space above the unit. I had to spend several hours designing and installing a home-made solution. (By the way, the kit is so flimsy that I probably would not have used it anyway after I saw it.) I like the unit, but it cost... read full review »

My Salvation

Okay. Our house, which is great, was built as a custom home by someone who was into contemporary design but at the same time was a "naturalist" or something. Anywho, we ended up with this gorgeous contemporary with tall casment windows and no air conditioning. We fougt the heat for several years, but with a new baby, we knew we needed AC no matter the cost. I just on a whim did a search and stumbled across these units. We ordered a 6,000 for our bedroom, and loft area, a 11,500 for our great room, and our kitchen window was wide enough for a standard unit. Anyway, installation was a "breeze" they... read full review »

Nice unit

I purchased this unit to replace my old Kenmore unit of 20 years. This new unit is very quiet and has ample cooling for one room. I like the digital temperature display and the remote control feature, very easy to use. The unit was very easy to install.

Good, but some issues

I have central air in my house, but bought this unit to cool just my bedroom due to being upstairs where all the heat ends up. It wasn't too hard to install, but I had to modify the bracket, and figure a way to extend the cover above the unit. There are two problems that I really don't like about this unit. First, the thermostat goes down to 60 degrees, but it won't cool the room any lower than 70. The instructions even say it won't kick the compressor on when the room is 70 or below. ARGH. Not cool enough for me. Second, when you set the "off timer", it automatically adjusts the temperature... read full review »

Room a/c

My old unit was 10 years old,so when it stopped working I went to Sears.com & found this unit. I was searching for a slider/casement unit & low & behold a miracle! The Sears unit was just what I needed! I installed it myself in 2 hours. Directions were easy to follow,no problems arose. Plugged it in & was perfect for the room. The easy part was the cool way the mercandise pick-up worked! The courteous people working there were very helpful & professional. I am very happy & satisfied with your service. I do have to say that the control buttons should have a dimmer switch,a little to bright at night... read full review »

great purchase

Solid product, easy to install and operate. But the best part is being able to shop, order and pay for online --- then swing by the store to pick up the next day. Hard to beat that!

Air Conditioner

We have had our air conditioner four years now, and have had no problems. It keeps our living area nice and cool, and is easy to move and store in winter. The filter is easy to remove and clean. I wash it in the dishwasher.
