Kenmore 7,800 BTU Single Room Air Conditioner —

Kenmore 7800 Btu Window Air Conditioner Unit.  The price of this unit is very competative in my research in comparing size, cooling, construction, features and also knowing who is backing it.  Any problem and back it goes for one year.  I purchased this unit to be able to turn off my central unit at night while sleeping.  I have a 5 ton central unit and figured if I turned it off and ran this instead I would save money espaecially with the "energy saver" function.  I bought two units at one time. One was a 5300 BTU unit and the other was the 7800 Btu unit.  Both unit work exactly as advertised and do a very good job of cooling.  Installation was no more difficult than with any window unit.  Unless you have an oversized window which I did it, shouldn't take you more than 20 minutes to get this thing going.  I must say the accordian side expansion pieces that fill in the space between the unit and the window frame are extremely cheaply made and totally inadequate.  It a relatively quiet unit if you are used to having window units and does exactly what the advertising says it will do.  Make sure you stay within the guidelines of square footage in your selection process!  I like the remote, the digital read out settings for temperature and the multi-directional air control.  I've had the unit about 1 1/2 months in the deep south and it performs well.  The main feature that I bought the unit for was the "energy saver" function.  This function turns the entire unit off when the desired temperature is achieved.  It does this.  However, every three minutes the fan comes back on and checks the humidity in the room.  If all is well it goes back off.  If not it continues to run. It naturally will also come back on if the temp drops below the desired setting.  All this activity is going on with in 3 feet of my bed. I can't sleep with all this going on so I have ended up not using the"energy saver" function.  If you don't use the  "energy saver" function it performs like any other A/C unit and runs continuously cycling the compressor on and off as needed.  It still remains to be seen if I have any savings and I will repost after the first full months bill comes but so far I am satisfied in general with the unit. This was one of the units that came recommended by Consumer reports.
