The salesperson was great and the gas hot water heater works well and the basic installation was done the next day. However make sure you know exactly what is included in the installation charge. Because I have a finished carpeted basement I wanted a 28 inch drain pan (the size drain pan required for...

Most Helpful Critical Review

We needed a larger water heater and this seemed like a good deal. $819 for the tank, $264 for installation, county permit, and haul away. Imagine our surprise when the installers showed up and said it would cost an additional $432! It turns out that the Sears sales manager "overlooked" telling us that...

Great Service

This water heater replaced a 50 gal. The only problem was the space and all the connections. $743. OTD for the water heater + another $100. in all the new parts + $50. for the pizza and beer I had to buy for my buddy to help me. It had to be raised up 20 in. and I think it ways over 200lb. For the average guy it's a 2 - 3 man operation and with all the HD runs to took about 4.5 hrs. I am glade I got it but if I new all the work that went into getting this monster in the same spot, I would have gone with a 60 gal. all the connections were about the same. But its true hot water in about 1 hour.

My Best Choice in a long, long, time....

Make sure that you have a mechanical closet large enough to accommodate this unit. Exhaust stack had to be replaced to meet the 4" requirement for this unit. Electronic pilot light system makes for easy of lighting. We had HOT water in less than a hour. Now my wife can enjoy her garden tub with worrying ab out running out of hot water. I can shower, while she runs all the hot water her heart desires. I'm not sure what the monthly natural gas costs will be, it's naturally not energy star rated. We'll be adding a retro-fit hot water circulating system to save on water usage to the far end of the... read full review »

Finally Enough Hot Water for the Whole Family!

Needed to replace my very old 40 gallon hot water heater - was on its last leg, and I was tired of cold morning showers as I have a family of 6. This water heater is fantastic. My wife, two teenage daughters, and me can all take hot showers and not run out of hot water. Installation was a 85 bucks more than the normal installation as they had to reroute a portion of the gas line due to the larger diamater. Fortunately, the chimney liner that I had installed a few years ago was 4", so they just had to change the small amount of ductwork from the unit to the wall. All in all, I couldn't be happier!... read full review »

Water heater works perfectly supplying all the hot water you need.  The installation issue is that the inlet and output connections are one inch not 3/4 inch like previous 2 Kenmore heaters I owned. That required acquiring 1 inch unions, pipe, and reducers to convert back to the house's 3/4 inch pipes.

33176 that I received looks exactly the the commercial 33807 75 gal water heater.  Pressure relief valve and drain valve are on the left of the thermostat, not the right like the 33176 picture.  There is no outer thermostat cover like shown in the 33176 picture.

I guess that these can be model...

Everything it fine so far.  We have only had it installed for two weeks.  My brother and I installed it.  It did not come with the outer cover to protect the controls.  I haven't addressed that issue yet.  Hopefully Sears will trust me and know that I didn't get it and order me one.

We will see.

This is a great replacement for my 10 year old heater (also a 75 gal).  It heats faster, stays hotter longer and is clearly a better product than the "builer grade" one that I had.  It is not the one in the photo, however.  I'm assuming Kenmore made a change to share the cosmetics with the 75 gal. commercial model.  Not a big deal, except that I would have liked the cover to go over the gas controls, as I have small children in the house.  Also, when having Sears install it, you will want to know exactly what you're getting with the installation.  The installers told me that I had to have...

Do not let Sears install your Water Heater unless you know the current building codes. Your City might have a web page where you can down load the code page for Water Heaters.

The Installer told me 4 items were required even after I griped about so many code changes in just 6 years. Two days later the City Inspector told me NONE of the 4 items were required. I am out $472 beyond the $295 plus $35 prepaid.

When I complainted, after review Sears said: "You signed the installation agreement, so no refund. Thanks for using Sears."

P.S.: hopefully  the Water Heater is of good quality. It is working...
