Bought this unit for our bedroom. I'm trying to cut down on the use of the central unit by zone cooling different parts of my house. My 5 ton central unit seems to run a lot in the summer. I've already done the insulation and energy savings things and it helped but not enough. With this unit and another 5300 BTU unit in another bedroom at night, I should be able to set the central on 80 and cool only with the window units. We'll see if it works.
As far as the 7800 BTU Kenmore window unit goes, it's the best one I researched for the price and consumer reports says Kenmore is good. It runs relatively quietly and with the energy saver mode I think it will certainly help with the electricity bill. I bought the 5300 BTU unit earlier and it does fine also.
Both units perform exactly as advertised, but make sure you stay with in the guidelines of square footage they recommend to cool. I would recommend these units to anyone and buy another if I needed one.
