Kenmore 8.8 cu. ft. Chest Freezer (1692) —
In looking for a 8-12 cubic foot chest freezer, this freezer from Sears had the lowest price and best set of features. I looked at all the major brands. And we all know that all freezers are manufactured by one of three companies.
For me the most important features included variable temperature control, interior light, exterior power on light and locking lid. There is little difference in energy consumption between energy star and non-energy star freezers so that wasn't a factor in my decision. I would also like to get a temperature alarm, but I'll just buy an inexpensive wireless temperature alarm instead of paying a lot more to get that integrated in the freezer.
I feel like I got a great deal. It was on sale at Sears. I signed up for email from Sears and got a coupon that let me save some additional $$. It was also small and light enough to fit in the back of my SUV so I could pick up it from Sears immediately without having to wait or pay for delivery. I placed my order online at 2PM and picked it up at 6PM.
Things that could be better: There are no leveling feet on the freezer or screw holes to insert slider feet. It just has metal skids for feet. The plastic lid lock is kind of cheap. It comes with 2 small baskets, but I wish there were more basket accessories available to organize stuff inside it.
After one month, there is a little frost starting to build up inside on one of the walls. Seems kind of fast to have frost build up, but maybe that is what you get with a manual defrost freezer.
