Kenmore 8.8 cu. ft. Chest Freezer (1692) —
It's not so big that we lose items and not so small that we can't easily fit over-size pizzas. I appreciate the sliding/removable baskets and wish there were three baskets instead of two. But that's a moot point. My only real concern is that the unit seems to have no suction. When I lift the lid on the closed unit, I can do it with one finger and there's absolutely no resistance. (Imagine pulling on the handle of your refrigerator and it too-easily swinging wide as if you'd just opened the cover of a worn book.) We're more and more concerned these days with efficiency; with making our dollars stretch and with not wasting our resources, and I know, due to the lack of a good seal on this freezer, that we're sacrificing efficacy and paying unnecessarily higher electric bills. I've tried "pushing hard" down on the lid to see if a vacuum might be created, but it's not.
The unit fills 90% of the minimum criteria to qualify as an excellent chest freezer, but it's just not energy efficient.
