I purchased the Kenmore 8.8 chest freezer 3 or 4 years ago. This was one of the best decisions I've made. The black color blends with any decor. The size is great (space saving ). Even though its manual defrosting I have no problems. I can purchase in large quantities and I'm always prepared for my grandchildren with frozen treats. This unit also has 2 baskets so everything is organized. I grew up in a household filled with Sears appliances.

Sears has been and continues to be a brand you can trust and depend on.

I have been wanting a freezer for quite a while, but couldn't decide what type or size to get. So first I asked my maintenance co-workers about upright vs. chest freezers - pros and cons. Then I decided on a chest freezer. Sears had the nicest little black chest freezer (8.8 ft) that would fit perfectly in my kitchen and coorindates with my black refrigerator, stove, and microwave, and black room accents. A white freezer would have looked awkward.

The freezer was easy to unload and move into the kitchen, and easy to remove the packing box. I knew when I ordered the freezer that it did NOT have adjustable feet. I wish that it did. My floor is level (I checked) and the freezer leaned forward onto the 2 front rounded feet, with the back feet totally off the floor. The instructions said that the freezer must be level or the freezer could misalign and the lid would not seal properly. I had to get some temporary shims to level the front left side of the freezer. This Kenmore 8.8 cu ft Chest Freezer (1694) is black in color and is the reason i chose it because my other appliances are also black, and i also thought great features and would of gave it five stars all the way until two days ago, it has begun making a sound off and on. I just bought one of these in June or July of this year, i believe it was in July. But anyway, i had been very happy with it. Now i haven't heard the sound yet tonight, but the last two nights it has made a not real loud sound, but a sound, i don't know if this is a natural sound, if it is i have never heard it before, and if it isn't then i am not sure what is going wrong with it. It is on level floor in kitchen, and has never been turned upside down, or abused or anything. I have kept food in it great, Matter of fact when i bought it, i went and to the butcher shop and filled the freezer up and the food i have put in it is staying froze, no fluctuality in temperature or anything, food is great. But this sound i heard......

This is an excellent freezer and a great value. It has more than paid for itself with the amount of money we have saved by freezing meat we purchase on sale and freezing produce. This freezer has had no trouble keeping food frozen and if the electric goes out it still holds a deep freeze for many hours as long as you don't open it during an outage. I highly recommend this freezer.

This freezer is quiet, light and is a perfect size. Favorite featuers are that it has a lock, temperature alarm, interior light, and good seals with little frost buildup.

Overall, I am very pleased with this purchase. The freezer looks good and has performed well thus far. We recently put an 1/8th of a cow in the freezer, and still have a lot of room left over. I wish it had a display for the actual temperature inside the freezer. I purchased a seperate freezer thermometer to make sure the temp was in the range that it needed to be. In doind so, I noticed (to no surprise) that there is a pretty significant temperature difference from the top to the bottom. I'll be sure to put the more temperature sensetive items in the bottom. It's in our basement, so the sound level is not really a concern, but it does seem to run pretty quietly. Many people have complained about the plastic key, which I don't really see as a problem. It appears to be a rigid, possibly glass filled, nylon which is more robust than people may realize.

This freezer was a great purchase. My kitchen design limits the size of refrigerator that I can install, and I prefer to make fewer but larger trips for food shopping, so I am usually short on freezer space-NOT ANY MORE. This freezer is small but has alot of space, and was very easy to put in my basement. And kudos to the delivery guys- I ordered several appliances at once, and they were quick, knowledgeable, polite and a genuine pleasure to have in my home. I have only just received it, but my family has been using Sears for our appliance needs for years, and we have never had problems....

Bought new Nov 08. Recieved in Dec 08. Compressor starting knocking in Jan 10. Quit working in Dec 10. Recommend the extended warranty with this purchase. When the compressor quit the temperature alarm failed to sound.

We purchased this freezer because it was the right size for us and the black color met the decor. However the first one we ordered made a horrible gurgling noise all the time. After an unsuccessful attempt at an online remedy through Sears, we called the repair hotline and scheduled a repairman since it was within 30 days of the purchase.

The repairman arrived, basicaly shrugged his shoulders and said "I would return it and get another one, I can't fix it". We returned it, and are very happy with the replacement. The moral of the story, don't be unhappy with a new purchase. We were going to put up with the old one, but are so glad we didn't. It was worth the inconvenience.

I bought this Freezer in November, 2008. Up until now, it's been a great freezer - plenty of room, quiet, low energy consumption, does the job well. BUT...here it is, early October 2010 (not even 2 years old) and my temperature alarm comes on. I noticed a little bit of frost accumulating inside, so I empty it and defrost it. After it's totally defrosted and dried out, I pugged it back in, and notice the compressor wasn't coming on. I tried to adjust the temperature control, all to no avail. Unit gets power, but the compressor won't run. So, now I've got a Sears repairman coming out. Can't wait to see how much THIS costs.

If you buy one, GET THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I didn't - because I never need use it. Until now.

This was the prefect freezer i was looking for. All the options i wanted and everything my wife needed. Good sales person not pushy and knows his products. The freezer is roomy,but does not take up alot space in the house. Also fits right up against the wall without hindering the lid from opening. I would say get this kenmore freezer,you can not go wrong.

I had this exact same problem. But I put a screw in mine to pull it out.

But it has such a boneheadedly stupid design flaw that wasted 2 hours of my time that I had to write a review. The drain plug for the inside bottom of the freezer can somehow flip over on its axis -- say, while you are cleaning the freezer -- and become lodged in the drain hole. I tried several different ways to remove it, and finally was forced to get a hammer and screwdriver and pound the drain plug back out. In the process, I of course damaged the plastic drain plug. It is mind-boggling how Kenmore could have designed such a simple element so poorly -- it should be IMPOSSIBLE for the drain plug to flip over and get lodged in the hole. This created an enormous amount of frustration that should never have had to be experienced"

nice compact design freezes well and is the quietest freezer I have ever pirchased. I have an ice cream truck buisness and would buy many more of the same I have three to date light weight easly moved by one person & hand truck.
