We adopted this water heater and it did not come with a manual. The PDF manual is no longe at Sears.com. I need to know what that A-B-C letters correspond to temperature-wise. We have a newborn and need to lower the temp!

Have you tried www.managemyhome.com, JohnHTaylor? You may be able to find your manual there.

You'll need the long model number of you appliance, off of its dataplate.
