Kenmore 80 gal. Tall Electric Water Heater (32184) —
The thing that sold me on this unit was the dual power option. Our old water heater was an 80 gal 3800 watt. While the old one was in, I had a transfer switch installed to run certain things in our house (not everything at once) with a 5000 watt generator.
I purchased this WH because of the dual power option on the bottom element- you can convert the water heater from 3800 watt to 5500 by putting a little metal bar across 2 of the three terminals on the bottom element.
I can get better performance during the 99.9% of the time that I don't need to run on generator power, but in the event that we would ever need to heat water using the generator, I can change it back to 3800 watt in a minute or two.
As far as quality goes, the only thing i noticed was the pressure relieve valve was turned in a little too far, so that the drain tube doesn't run straight down the tank-, instead, it comes down at a slight angle. I didn't want to mess with backing it out part of a turn for fear of causing a leak. Not the end of the world, but a little frustrating when you spend around $500 for an appliance.
I haven't had it long enought to rate durability.
