I must have had a dozen Whirlpool/GE Monogram/KitchenAid/Kenmore icemakers through the years. They all manufactured by Whirlpool. There are only 4 (to my knowledge) icemakers out there: Whirlpool, Scotsman (also sold as Subzero until recently when they went to Manitiwoc), Marvel (also sold as Viking... read full review »

Our Kenmore icemaker is broken after only 3 years. We didn't get the extra warranty and maybe should have so we could have used it a few more years. It just stinks to have to spend extra money to be sure your product will be around longer. We liked having small cubes for packing coolers, blending, family...

Great Price for a machine with such high output of ice in a 24 hour period.

Most machines similar to this one run for at least $1,800.

Kenmore is a well trusted brand name and sears provides great service and warranty.

Purchased in 2004 when we build "dream kitchen".  Worked great for about a year and a half and then started going through pumps.  Compressor went at one point also.  Sears out several times under protection agreement and "repaired" but took up until August 2009 to get them to honor lemon protection.

Makes crystal clear ice, great for drinks and entertaining!

Get the protection agreement.  Was worth every penny.

Great WHEN it works!!

We have had this thing less than 4 years, already had it replaced with a new one and it is broke.  Way too many problems and service calls for the average family.  Get warranty if you do get one!!

Buy the warranty protection

In 2 1/2 years we've had two of these fail in our basement bar/kitchen. The first one was a Kitchen Aid, who most likely manufacturers the Kenmore since both are very similar. The first one the compressor failed and fortunately the extened warranty replaced it, however, it failed again and Sears replaced the unit with a new one. Now a year later, the Kenmore has stopped working and Sears repair is still trying to fix it (on third service call now). If you choose be sure to buy the warranty, based on our experience you will need it.

Makes great clear ice. Great job when it is working.

The first one I bought, I was too cheap to buy the extedned warrenty. It went bad and cost more to repair then to buy a new one. They repair folks in my area have not clue on how to repair one of these anyhow. You WILL be using the warrenty within the 5 years. For some reason these units are not able to last more than a few years.

I would recommend only if the 5 yr extended warrenty is purchased with the unit. Expect to buy a new unit in 6-7 years.

Dissatisfied. 3 of the 4 major alppliances we bought from Sears didn't work and required a service repairman to replace critical parts.

Longevity disappointing

I purchase my Kenmore Elite ice maker in 2001. It ceased to make ice after ~ 4 years with only minimal entertainment use. Repair costs are 'estimated' to be nearly half the price I originally paid for the unit. Generally I've been very happy with Kenmore appliances otherwise.

Ice Heaven

We had an older version of one of these that I repaired many times. This new one is built much better with many design improvements. I recommend to anyone!

A great addition to a home.

We have one of these in our Maui home and bought another for our home in California. Great product.

I have bought 2 of these icemakers in the last 14 years. I have 4 friends that have under counter icemakers also that love them. The whole family loves the fresh, clear ice readily-available, especially for parties in hot South Texas. I run the cleaning cycle once a month that is easy to do. But you still need to buy the annual maintenance plan that runs around $125 each year. The techs are great, and give you tips on how to prolong the life of this machine, and I make sure to follow their guidelines. Yes - it is an expensive convenience. If you are trying to save money, this is not for you if...

Undercounter Ice maker

Had unit less then 1 week and the service lite came on twice. Unit built up heat. All the ice was melted and there was about 2 inches of water in bin. Had a like unit for over 10 years with no problems until it had a freon leak. Called Sears and they are replacing the unit. No problem with getting new unit. I going to try it one more time.
