I would definitely take a good look at the Kenmore vacuum cleaners. We love ours. If you have hardwood floors, make sure to get one that has the horse hair bristles to ensure you don't ruin your floor.
They have designed a very nice vacuum, which should last indefinitely if treated correctly.
Vacuum is almost one year old. Went out of the room for awhile when I came back thought I left the vacuum on, found out real fast the vacuum is turning on and off by it's self. Motor smelled very hot. I feel like this is a fire hazard. Sears management says just unplug it every time your not using it....

I bought this to replace my old Kenmore canister, after 16 years of use. I love Kenmore canisters, since I have both carpet and hardwood/tile. This canister is quieter and lighter than my old one, and does a great job at getting up dirt, dust and pet hair. I love the telescoping wand! I'd definitely recommend this vacuum cleaner to anyone.
My wife needs a new vacuum and a friend of mine suggested to try Sears. I found right away what I want and as we start using it a home, my wife was amaze with it's power and things it can do to accomplish it's job. My kids like it too for it's easy to maneuver and easy to use under the bed.It's quite loud but I think that's the way it is when it proves how it works hard.We look forward to enjoy this product for a long time.
I am a vacuum nut and am always looking for the best one to help with the constant hair of 3 dogs and a cat - but while staying within a certain budget. This vacuum was not my first choice - the model below it was. When I went back to buy the vacuum this one happened to be on sale for the same price so I got the "upgraded model" instead. The vacuum is great! The attachments change very easily, it is much quieter than my GE canister was, and it is very easy to maneuver around. The telescoping wand is such a neat feature - we have all different sizes in our house and it makes vacuuming...
read full review »This is a great vacuum. We have had many different types. I like this type because you can detach the wand end and get the baseboards and the top corners of the rooms. It isn't too heavy or loud and has plenty of power. It is very maneuverable and easy to load and unload out of the back of a vehicle. It has been passed around and we let people borrow it. Many people have commented how they like it as well.
Great bang for your buck on this one! I bought the first one about 12 years ago and my current one 2 years ago. First one still worked, just wanted a new one. Suction is great and a canister is ideal for my one story home.
Only complaint I have is that the bags are a bit over priced and a apin to get since I can only buy them at Sears (that I know of).
I have owned the Kenmore Canister Vacuum for only a few weeks (purchased in Aug 2010), and so far it works perfect. It has strong suction, maneuvers easily, and seems very sturdy. I previously owned an Electrolux Oxygen which I paid considerably more for and it was a terrible machine. The Kenmore already feels like a better made machine and it is more convenient as all the attachments are stored on the machine itself and in easy reach. I only gave it 4 stars as I believe I need to see how it lasts over more time to deserve the 5 stars.
I have been using this vacuum for 20 years. It is the best. Friends and family buy it after I show them all it can do.
Purchased for HEPA filtration and ease of use/lighter weight. Low price.
Only drawback so far is that the brush attachment doesn't stay attached very well and the corner/edge cleaning doesn't seem to clean as well as previous Kenmore canister we owned.
Self propelled rug attachment gives you a workout also but lightweight canister is great.
If I had written this review 3 months ago it would have said best vacuum ever but in the last three months it has started a high pitched squeal ever time that I use the vacuum. It is so loud it is to the point that I do not even want to use the vacuum. I have had it about a year and a half and I am extremely disappointed that it is no longer preforming up to par.
I enjoy the lightweight power, convenience, and getting into small areas!!! This is a GREAT VAC. Read the Discussiion comments on the Kenmore Progressive at SEARS.com to read how you can lengthen the life of your vac by turning it OFF BEFORE DISCONNECTING THE WAND TUBE. Over time the electrical connectors between wand and handle burn out, causing intermittent power to the power head ... detailed instructions for purchasing & replacing the little electronic connectors for about $20 are posted there, too. Buy the WARRANTY!
very easy to use and excellent for cleaning. Light weight and good suction power.
I have a professional cleaning service and have used many different types of vacuum cleaners. The best I have found over the years have been Sears Kenmore products. They are durable, and dependable and require far less maintenance than other brands. They have saved me so much money, in their cost and low down time, that I will now only buy Kenmore products. So when I needed to replace my vacuum for my home, I choose the Kenmore Ebony Canister.
