I bought this machine a year and a half ago, it was my Christmas gift from my family. I could not be happier with this machine. It is so quiet and smooth with lots of stitches. I have never had one problem with it and sew almost daily. I have even sewn 8 + layers of heavy denim on it with no problem,...

What I love about this machine is all the features! What I did not like is a spring that held the presser foot on flew off during the first week. I could not put the presser foot back on. I returned it and there was a 15% restocking fee. I also read later that people had trouble with this machine's computer...

I rely heavily on feedback & reviews before purchasing any big ticket items online. I chose this particular machine as a birthday present for me because it stated it was quiet and smooth, and all of the positive feedback it got, but after trying it out, I have an older kenmore that's not as noisy as this.
There were a lot of stitches, and patterns, but i don't really know where they came up with the number 765?
I'm a serious quilter/seamstress and am satisfied with the sewing machine itself and the different stitches and features, but now I realize I could have gotten a less expensive sewing mahine...read full review »
I am so impressed with the ease of sewing on this machine, I owned a Kenmore sewing machine years ago, but when I went to use it again after setting for at least 5 years it was giving me some problems, so I purchased a Brother sewing machine what a big mistake!! that was the worse machine that I have ever seen or used!!!!!!
My new Kenmore machine is the best investment I have made,
my daughter stopped by to see the machine I showed her all the designs etc. it could do she sat down I showed her what the sales person showed me and right away she was sewing her name & her daughter's name she loved...read full review »
There are a lot of great reviews by long-time users of the Kenmore 385-19606 machine, so I thought I would write about my first impressions of my newest machine that I have only had for 24 hours.
Upon taking it out of the box, my first inspection made me realize that it was very similar to my current E1^a machine, which is a good thing, because the 8 year old E1^a is still going strong, but I felt the need for a new machine to boost my level of inspiration and creativity. Plus, the presser feet of my new Kenmore, my old E1^a, and my V1&1^9 sewing/embroidery machine are all interchangeable with...read full review »
My husband purchased this machine for me for Christmas in 2005. I have made quite a few outfits and crafts with it since then. There have been very few problems, and any that I have had have been because I did something incorrectly, and they were easily corrected. I love the machine, the variety of stitches, and the ease of using all of its attachments. I also love the fact that you don't have to use the foot pedal! Working by touch of a finger is Wonderful!
What I liked:
I was afraid it would be a learning curve, going from a mechanical machine (Nelco Ultra Dressmaker...WORKHORSE!) to a computerized gadget.
I WAS WRONG!
Plugged in the machine, sat piddling 'round with the feet and accessories, getting them organized while watching the instructional DVD, and was off and sewing comfortably in under 30 minutes.
The quiet of the machine is astounding, and the smooth action is wonderful. The bobbins drop easily, and both threading the machine and pulling up the bobbin thread are easier than an easy thing. It's designed to load a bobbin with thread without...read full review »
I bought this machine in April of 2006. I didn't take it out of the box right away b/c the computer aspect of it just scared me since I had an old Singer that was not computerized. I finally got the guts to open it up and test drive the machine and have loved it ever since. I love how it is very quiet and sews so nicely and the variable speed is fun too. I love all the stitches and designs the machine can make. Overall it's been a great machine for me. I even bought a ruffler to use with it and I highly recommend getting one of those.
The cons: I was not to pleased with the monogramming on this...read full review »
I have been sewing on my 19606, made by Janome, for one year now. I wouldn't trade it for another brand. It fit so easily into my budget and does as much, if not more as my friend's Ber_ _ _ a. She paid a fortune for hers.
I learn more all the time about it. It was so easy to set up and start sewing when I got it. Still haven't used all the bells and whistles, but am getting there.
I have been sewing for 40+ years and quilting for 7.
Go on down and try it out...you'll be amazed, then write your own review. I know you'll love it as much as I do. I can't wait to get at it almost every day of the...read full review »
I upgraded to this model from a simular machine that was over 10 years old. This is my third Kenmore machine and I will not buy anything else! Great machine at a great value! This machine can do so many things with just the touch of a button. I am always learning more things I can do to make sewing easier and fun. I am just beginning to explore all the additional functions with all the attachments available, what a plus! I love it when "home made" looks better than ready made!
I replaced my Singer with this machine and have not been sorry. This machine has many wonderful features and is very easy to understand. I purchased the additional foot package which I highly recommend, I also just purchased the plexiglass sewing platform which has given me a large surface as I do machine quilting. When I first purchased the machine I spent a day stitching the programed stitches but with the ability to save designs the 765 stitches are infinate. I have had 3 other sewing machines and by far I have enjoyed this machine more than any of them. My husband says that I spend a lot of...read full review »
I've sewn knits with ease as well as light weight and heavy fabrics. The only thing that it balked at was when I was sewing a belt loop on the center back seam of a pair of denim jeans. It was 14 layers of denim and 2 layers of interfacing. It did sew it, but it really didn't like it, and I won't do that again. Instead, I'll abuse one of my cast iron, sewing tanks or move the belt loop off of the center back seam. Overall, I feel that it handles heavier fabrics very well, unless you get ridiculous about it. Hemming jeans is no problem.
The automatic tension system works perfectly.
The LCD display...read full review »
I recently purchased 19606 just before Christmas 2007 for a machine to take to quilting classes and to my sewing studio as basic machine. I have several Berninas and Embroidery machines. What impressesd me the most was the power, needle threader, needle up/down and the quietness. The number of stitches. The feet that came with the machine and the additional feet that can be purchased with breaking your bank account. I recently quilted a jacket and would spend hours sewing and it didn't skip a beat. This machines is basicly a Janome. I will tell all my quilting friends about 19606. These features...read full review »
I was finally ready to upgrade from the sewing machine that I purchased a year or so ago, when I decided to start a business, making baby bibs, blankets, and tote bags. Having a bit more confidence under my belt, I wanted a machine that would grow with my skill level, as well as being appropriate for all the regular sewing that I do.
I LOVE this machine! I still haven't used all the functions, but I've been sewing on this thing, every day, for two weeks straight, sometimes for hours at a time, and just couldn't be more pleased!
It's an excellent value, for all the functions that it has, as well...read full review »
I've sewn several projects over the last five months and I would highly recommend this machine to anyone. It is easy to operate right out of the box. The manual and VHS tape are very clear and understandable. The manual tells you how to use each of the nine snap-on feet that come with the machine. I tested this machine with several layers of fabric and it sewed through them without a hitch. I also tested it on very sheer fabric with an extremely satisfactory outcome. I was very careful to use the correct sized needle and thread for whatever fabric I was using. I tested all seven buttonholes...read full review »
