I love this machine!!!! My sister got one too... I use it for everything-drapes, clothing, pillow covers, etc. My sister uses it for basic alterations and she loves how easy to use too!!! I got great service at sears for in store pick-up, though I really wished I could buy in cash at the store, but there was a big difference in the cost.
I am a sewing instructor and spent quite a bit of time "interviewing" machines before choosing this model to use in my studio. This one won out over many much more expensive brands because it is well designed, reliable, quiet, and very user firendly for sewers of all levels, from first-timers to advanced users. I own 8 of them currently, and plan to by several more to expand my fleet this year. I sewed my wedding dress with this machine.
From my experience, many of the problems that others are reporting here (such as tension issues, the needle always stopping up, the extra stitch...
read full review »This is the machine I take to class and use as a loaner to friends on occassion. I use it as a backup when my Kenmore 19606 (my #1 favorite) is out for service or I am at another location, and have been very satisfied with it's performance. It uses the same feet as my 19606 so it is very convenient for getting the same 1/4" seem allowance on a project that I want to work on in more than one location. I have used this machine to stitch thicknesses that my 19606 had trouble with. It is a great addition to my Sewing machine collection.
It is a really good solid machine, stitches nicely,...

I did tons of research and looked at many machines. I figured out all the qualities that I wanted in a machine. The search was on for the perfect one within my price range.
In September my husband and I were shopping at Sears and I decided to look in their sewing section. I hadn't really decided on any one machine yet, but after looking at this Kenmore in person I knew I wanted it! (The sale...
read full review »I have not sewn in a very long time. I needed to familiarize myself with a new sewing machine since the two I already own are out of date and not working properly. I found this machine very easy to use and within a couple of minutes I was sewing like I never stopped. The instruction booklet is very concise and easy to follow.
I have always had good luck with Kenmore sewing machines, but I returned this one. In testing it out I found that when I took my foot off the pedal the machine would not stop right away. I tried changing settings but nothing worked. I even tried grabbing the hand wheel but the motor was engaged and would not stop. I called and they told me that this is a feature of the machine. Not only do I think it is a bad feature but I think it is dangerous. If you need the machine to stop there should be an option to stop it immediately. I returned it and got a less expensive model that works...
read full review »I just bought my sewing machine two weeks ago and I love it. I read the instructions before I used it and it was very easy to understand, the machine is also easy to use. It is great for beginners and for advance.
I was having trouble making curtains from a heavy weight leather look fabric that kept slidding around or bunching up with my older (and cheaper) model Brother machine. So I bought this Kenmore because of it's features of adjustable pressure foot and feeder foot plus the speed control. This is the machine that made it possible to complete my curtains in record time. The machine is a dream to use... but be sure to watch the video that comes with it. With so many combinations of the various settings at first it was confusing. But now that I understand the machine a little more I...
read full review »My 15 year old Kenmore machine broke in the middle of a project recently... I figured after 15 trouble free years it deserved a peaceful death, so I went to Sears and picked up this machine as a replacement. I love how quiet it sews, I love the extra feed dogs and the drop in bobbin feature. It even handles metallic embroidery thread without any complaints or problems, but the overall design of the machine just feels cheap. The stitch selector wheel is stiff and difficult to turn, the plastic slider stitch width and length selectors are reminiscent of a vacuum cleaner carpet height selection...
read full review »I purchased June 2008. Since I have made over 18 quilts, all sizes, several sets of children clothes, and altered dress suits. I love the machine. I also purchased the black case for attachments, which makes it so easy to sew with friends and to take to classes. The attachments are affordable and work as they are designed to work. I agree with the smooth quiet running of the machine. I totally disagree with tension control problems. I have made bias tape, I have quilted, I have ruffled, I have sew with knits and cottons. I have never had a tension problem. In fact my pride comes...

THE PRICE IS JUST RIGHT YOU CANT GO WRONG WITH THIS MACHINE..... -- ANITA -- FROM HOUSTON
Absolutely love the sewing machine. Have had it for a while now and have made several quilts with it. It is easy to use and is quiet so I can sew while hubby watches tv. Threads its own needle and love the speed contril. If you know a sewer this would be perfect.
Since my only other sewing experience was with an old 1960's era machine that used cams, this one seems like a blessing. I've been teaching myself and have found the instruction book/manual to be easy to follow. My only complaint is that it can be finicky at times. I've read some other reviews about the machine jamming for no apparent reason. I have a theory about this and it's related to using non-Kenmore brand needles in this machine. Someone gave me a bunch of universal Singer needles and it seems that everytime I try to use these needles, the machine has a major tempor tantrum. I...
