Before I buy an appliance I usually check the feedback on items so I do appreciate the fact that people submit reviews. I had bought a used competitor machine but it could not sew through several layers of material which was frustrating to me. My friend said 'why don't you check out a kenmore' and I did. Checked all the reviews and based on them I bought this machine. I absolutely love it. I'm an experienced seamstress (have sewn for almost 40 yrs). It is easy to operate and does everything I want!!!! You can't go wrong and the price is reasonable.
The Kenmore is a sturdy and reliable machine. Drop in bobbin feature is easy to use, and the overall threading of this machine is simple. This is my second one.....I put many more miles on a machine than is intended for home use, and this one satisfies my need for a lightweight, portable machine that I haul out to craft shows to use, as well as sewing many hours a day in the studio. I use a thread stand rather than the horizontal spool holder on top of the machine. Have not used zipper foot, so cant comment on that. The machine is quiet, and is a workhorse! I sew both lightweight fabric...
read full review »The manual for the sewing machine is horrible!!! Thankfully I have friends that have helped. One you know how to do all the ins and outs its golden!! I also just bought the Sew it up book...they really need to lower the book price. Its 29.00 I was able to get it for 14.00 it shows you what and how to use all the feet...this sadly should have been included with the sewing machine...Excellent book...Sears/Kenmore should also offer classes on how to use the machine or get some video out n the web!!! Make sure if you buy the walking foot you put the lever over the needle screw...very important...other...
read full review »I have had this sewing machine for almost two years and I have to say it is the best sewing machine ever. It's so easy to figure out how to use it if you are new to sewing, or have been out of sewing for awhile. My favorite part about the machine is how easy it is to get the thread through the needle. Normally I spend more time on trying to thread the needle than sewing! I have fun just learning all the different stitches that it does. I love it, I love it, I love it! I would recommend this sewing machine to anyone. It has been fantastic for me!
This is a great product. The color is perfect and the price cannot be beat. I use all the time. I have not had any problems. What can you say about the price but great, great, great. Sears you have done it again. Offering customers great products for great prices.
I love the machine!!! Its extremely user friendly and efficient. The only downside is that it doesn't have the speed on the side like the other ones its on the pedals... Its hard to get used to and it can pretty fast. Other then that I extremely recommended!!!!!
Bought this for my wife for Christmas, her request, seems she never owned a sewing machine although she had sewn on other people's. She loves it. She has made stuff that I never knew possible.
It's very durable, sews everything. Even quilts. Which she's made about 3 of since she got it. She recently went shopping for a new skirt and when she couldn't find the style she wanted, she just immediately went to the fabric store to get a pattern and material to make her own.
It was easy to learn to use and came with a very imformative manual. Would have been nice if it had a quilting foot with it, but...
read full review »This machine is easy to use. I am completely new to sewing. My mother-in-law told me which brands to consider and I don't think we went wrong with this one. Kenmore wasn't the first brand that came to mind when thinking about sewing machines. In a few months I've made a few clothing items for my daughter, a couple of craft projects and now I'm quilting with it. It is really nice. It doesn't have a speed control except for the foot pedal, which was a little difficult to figure out at first. I wish it came with more bobbins, as it only came with 3. I'm happy that I went with this...
read full review »This is the inexpensive machine & is designed for a long life. This is not like cheap brothers and singers who have plastic parts. This has metal parts. This machine is made by Janome and this is made in Taiwan. Very simple and easy to operate. We completed couple of projects on this machine. Only had for 3 weeks. This machine is excellent. We have no problem during this period. This is not computerized machine. We bought it for occasional use. Hope this lasts years. Be ready to spend on some accessories like Cover or bag, ruffler, Bobbins.
Thanks to everyone for your reviews. I read them all and the good outweighed the bad, so bought it just to give it a try.
I haven't done any sewing for more than 20 years and with a bit of trepidation, opened the box and began reading the manual which was easy to understand. The diagrams helped a lot, too. The only suggestion I would make would be to have a cross reference of alphabetized instructions (giving the page number).
I was surprised the store didn't have the advertised sale pricing and I had to ask for it. I see it is still available on-line for around $130 (which they honored). ...
read full review »I highly recomend this sewing machine, it's a great price for such an amazing product. It's hard to find these days a machine that's been made with good quality, you can tell the moment you carry it, the weight tells you it's gonna last long and do a great job, instead of something cheap made out of only plastic. Works great!!!! everything goes smooth! and with quality!!! AA+++
I got this as a gift back in Jan 2010. I have one complaint: I wish it had a longer stitch setting. Otherwise this is a great machine. I love the automatic button hole attachment, it has made my sewing projects so much easier. My old machine (that I had for 16 years) would break needles if it hit a pin....this one can mess a pin up! I've only broken 1 needle and probably about 50 pins.
Easy to thread...easy instructions...all in all a great machine.
