Kenmore Electrostatic Air Cleaner —

Product worked great for two years...absolutely loved it, it made the air so fresh and clean. We took care of it exactly as our operators manual instructed. Two years and two months later (2 months after my extended warranty ended) it developed some kind of short and stopped working. When I purposely bought what I thought was a Sears top of the line product and spent over $400 (with the extended warranty) I expected to have a product with, at a very minimum, five year life span. What do I do with this piece of junk now? Fix it? Costs almost as much to fix it as it is to buy a new one. Throw it away? Our landfills are overflowing with our throw-away-societal junk and Kenmore is one of the guiltiest junk producers of all (Have a Kenmore dryer less than 3 yrs old already giving me trouble). Don't waste your money.

That's a bummer. I wish manufacturers would place a Projected Product Lifespan as a beyond the warranty data point. It would help me learn what to expect in general performance. I don't mean something that will be used against the maker - just the idea that I ought to know what the overall performance should generally be so I can make a good value decision re the purchase.
