I was greatful to be able to own a product like this, as having a large family can add up the trash, but instead of several large bags of trash a week, I was always fortunate to only need to dispose of one. It also was a great tool for recycling cans(can crusher) prior to taking them to the recycling...

Most Helpful Critical Review

We remodeled our entire kitchen a year and a half ago (i.e. May 2008) and installed a Kenmore Elite Trash Compactor.  It is model 1363 in stainless steel.  We paid $799 for it new.  We have loved the compactor and had no problems with it until yesterday when the main gear broke in half (5 months after...

sleek looking

Much nicer looking than most compactors! It matches the other kenmore appliances nicely. Only issue is that the front door is a little wobbly! But...it works....squishes the garbage as it should!

Takes up no room and reduces trash so I dont have to take it out often.  Most packaging of anything these days is made up of air.  By removing dead air space means I can fit 36 gallon size trash bag full of trash to the size of an undersink trash

Quality issue

Just after our 12 month warranty ran out, the motor blew up and to replace it costs over $400. Would think this unit should last more than a year at this price. Foot pedal is hard to use as you have to lift it up to relase the compaction. Not happy with longevity of appliance

Love it

WE Just did a kitchen remodel....Im so glad we made room for this!...Anything that make me walk out to the garbage can ..less.. is a life saver... I now have so much LESS garbage.. It compacts all my boxes...cereal, pasta..soda bottles....etc ......that used to take up so much room in my under the sink garbage can!!And if you are recycling just don't put any wet garbage in it and you can take it to the recycling center...! It is awesome.... works great and looks good too... Also you don't need to use your hands when they are full..to open it....just push on the leaver with your FOOT... Get it you... read full review »

I was scheduled to get my compactor before Christmas, which I did.  HOWEVER, after my hubbie & I struggled to get it placed under our island counter, we went to put the 'handle' on and the holes were bored incorrectly !  The handle didn't match up to the holes in the front.  So, Sears ordered a new 'door' and we exchanged that part out, after the Holidays.   Granted, that was probably a 'freak' deal... but was 'inconvenient' and was sad that I didn't have this to use while 18 'guests' were in my home.

Also, it is not 'smudge' resistant.   Wherever you touch it, is GOING to show your fingerprints... ...

Look Ma! No hands!

This model replaced a Harvest Gold 1970 GE trash compactor during my 2006 kitchen remodel. The Good... 1) Requires only a little foot action to open... no more sticky fingerprints from opening the door with your hands! And then another swipe with your foot to initiate the compacting process! The Bad... 1) Required 4" more floor space (depth) under the counter than my old model. Had to relocate power supply to accomodate new appliance. 2) If you find fingerprints on the front of this stainless steel surface, someone in your household doesn't have any feet or just doesn't get how to use it!
