When I walked into Sears to purchase a chest freezer, I had done my research and, to be honest, I chose Sears only because Kenmore was a brand that I haven't heard terrible things about. When I walked into the store, the saleswoman was very helpful, friendly, and tactful with sales. She didn't try to...

Most Helpful Critical Review
I bought this freezer in June of 2009. In just over three months I notice the frost build-up was excessive as compared to the 31 year old Wards that it replaced. Over the next year Sears (A & E) was here 4 times to try to correct the problem. They were unsuccessful. All of the repair people told... read full review »

recently purchased sears "top of the line" elite chest freezer, model 1608-didn't use for 2.5 weeks-took 5 days to get it down to 2-5 degrees, then after about a month, had to run an exterior fan on the compressor vent area to maintain an even temp as it was now varying/rising to 12-15 degrees-very lightweight freezer, unsure featherweight of a lid was closing/sealing since day one and frost/ice buildup on inside of front/sides of freezer confirms it does not seal well-top of freezer lid is always quite cold with constant moisture buildup-temp again rising past 2 1/2 weeks, now @ 31 degrees past... read full review »

Well designed - great buy!

Nice unit - bought 2 - would recommend to anyone - using in a garage in South Dakota - extreme hot and cold - hasn't been a problem yet!

I have had this chest freezer for a little over a month and I love it.

I work from home and sit at my computer about 12 feet from this unit.  It is virtually silent.  The compressor kicks in maybe once every two hours....then again, it's hard to hear so who can tell?

When researching my ideal unit, I was apprehensive about the organizational abilities of this type of freezer.  Most specifications fail to note any storage options and sometimes you are forced to study thumbnail pictures to figure out what comes with a particular unit.  This unit comes with plastic dividers that you can use...

Kenmore Elite 19.7 cf Freezer

We purchased this freezer to replace a 15.6 cf Kenmore freezer we purchased in 1990. It was still running. Since our family has grown through the years, we felt we needed a larger freezer. I love the light it has inside the freezer. All the compartments and the 3 hanging baskets are great. I don't have to spend lots of time searching for something. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend/family member!

Did not last long

We bought this freezer 3 years ago and today it stopped working. We need a new compresser. I just expected it to last longer since our last one went strong for nearly 35 years.

Satisfied Customer

We had been shopping for a chest type freezer for about 3 months, and was immediatley impressed with the features of this product as well as the price. I really liked the space dividers in the bottom of the freezer and the sliding trays. This feature will help keep foods easily organized, and make clean-up almost effortless. We have purchased about 5-6 appliances from Sears in the last 15 years and have always been satisfied with the product and service. Sears stands behind their products unlike some of the larger newer competitors.

Works as advertised.

Replaced an old energy hog.  Measurement confirms that this unit uses the electricity claimed for it, and maintains at lt least the temperature setting.   It's very quiet.  Has a temperature display.  No problem with the door seal.  However, some warnings.  The temperature display is programmed to display the target temperature whenever the freezer is in range of that temperature, so you can't see how it varies as the freezer cycles.  The range seems to be about plus/minus 4 degrees but it's hard to measure.  Delievery is NOT installation.  The delivery people removed the old unit and...

I love my new freezer. I had an upright freezer for years because of limited space. I am so glad we went back to the chest freezer, there is so much more room. We prefer Kenmore, we have had better luck with it. The freezer is very quiet and seems to run well. We have only had it for a couple of weeks, but I have had Kenmore appliances all of my life. I would reccomend Kenmore to anyone but I would not reccomend the maintanance agreement. THEY DO NOT STAND BEHIND THEM.

It is nice to walk by the freezer and actually not hear it run. Our old freezer never shut off. It got to the desired temp. quickly and has kept it there without excessive running.

We purchased this freezer to replace a 25 yr.old model.  It far exceeds our expectations and needs. It quickly reached zero. I love the dividers, indicator/temperature light display, interior light and it runs quietly. We are really pleased with our purchase and with the prompt and courteous service we received at Sears.

We live in a remote area in southern Utah, so I knew I wanted a lot of freezer space so we can stock up on items when we go to a large metro area to shop. I didn't actually see this unit in person before I bought, otherwise I may have bought a slightly smaller one, but I think over time, I will be happy with the size we have. We are in a small manufactured home while we are building a larger home and then this unit will go into the garage, but in the meantime, its practically within our living space so I know we'd hear any noise. There is a pet fountain nearby and the sound from the fountain... read full review »
