Fabulous refrigerator/freezer!

This has got to be one of the most beautiful refrigerator/freezers around--I saw this exact design featured in a New York Times ad for high-end kitchen renovations. It sits free-standing in our kitchen, so a nice appearance was definitely a concern of mine. It is very impressive to look at, and fits with our other stainless steel appliances. Ours was just delivered yesterday. Originally I was unhappy with the idea of the freezer being on the bottom, and I was looking for a side-by-sdie, but now that I have it home, I think it's a terrific improvement. Many freezer items I buy (chickens, turkeys, pizzas) are large and/or heavy, and they fit great in this unit and are so easy to put there!. We go in and out of the refrigerator much more often than the freezer, so why not have the fridge part be the most easily accessible? The photos don't show that there is a very nice slide-out utility shelf in the freezer where we put frozen waffles, pot pies, burritos. The lighting is outstanding in the freezer as well. The ice maker allows you to select cubes of various sizes. The panel where the water is dispensed features a white LED light that you can also turn on and leave on, if you like. The temperature control panel lights up blue when you open the door, and remains lit for a time after it's closed. There is an alarm that sounds if you leave the door open so long that temperatures begin to rise (you can turn this alarm off, however). This unit holds a LOT. I was impressed, because it doesn't look so spacious because the distance from front to back is narrow compared to our old unit. But overall it is WIDE, so be sure to measure your location for compatible dimensions. After my first big shopping, I thought, oh no, I will never get this all in there--but everything fit with room to spare. The refrigerator section has drawers for low humidity, for extra cold but not freezing, for dairy, and two drawers that can be adjusted for fruits and vegatables. We could use double the fruit and vegetable drawer space, but we will just store these things on the shelves too. It comes with a large clear egg box that I though was just plain silly, so I took that out. I'm looking forward to being able to adjust just one shelf to hold a large pot of stew/soup or a cooked turkey in a space-saving way. I can't really comment on reliabilty or durability at this point, but overall it seems sturdy. The water dispensing area is made of thin silver plastic, that's the only place I've found where a more durable material might have been advisable. All and all, just delighted. Cold enough for food in 2-3 hours.
