“Good value and looks; precision needed for installation.”
Our old cooktop bit the dust, and reviews of this model were favorable, so we bought one on the website. I was looking for some special deals on the web, but none ever materialized. The only negative I have with this model is that I had to cut a larger opening in our countertop to accomodate the unit. The allowable variance for the opening size is only about 1/4", so you must be DARN SURE of the location and accuracy of your cuts. Other than that, it installed without a hitch. As for operation, it seems to do a fine job in all of the tasks we ask it to do. It has been worked pretty hard, even for having only been installed for a few weeks. Our real trial by fire will be Thanksgiving in nine days! The burner sizes seem to fit our various posts and pans pretty well, and the expandable burner is just right for our bigger gastronomic containers. We are still getting used to how quickly the radiant elements can heat up, and have learned to increase the settings in a couple of increments to get it up to temperatures above medium. (For example, we placed a cast iron griddle on the large burner and turned the heat up immediately to Hi, only to have the griddle crack due to the temperature difference between the scorching center and mostly cool edge.) For the people who mentioned that there seem to be marks on their unit after cooking, be sure that A) the required cooktop cleaner and conditioner cream is buffed on before use (a couple of coats), and B) use the cleaner and some decent elbow grease to remove that baked on buildup. Read the directions for care of the cooktop. Overall, we like it. Kenmore appliances have served us well for the last 15 years of home ownership, and we anticipate nothing less than the same from this cooktop.
