“I would never buy another Kenmore Elite Microwave.”
In fall of 2002, we purchased all Kenmore Elite appliances for our Retirement home. Being as these would be the last appliances bought, we wanted stainless steel and the best. In 2006, our microwave started "acting up". It turned itself on when no one was around. After three service calls, the serviceman ordered us a new one. Now in Aug. of 2009, less than three years later, we were using the microwave last nite, Aug. 13, to cook a potato. I put the potato in and used the sensing option, like I always do. Left the room and in a few minutes, there was smoke in the kitchen. The microwave had not turned off automatically, like other times, and burnt itself out. Also, after tossing the charcoal lump of potato in the garbage, and putting the garbage outside, we notice that the side of our plastic wastecan was melting. The potato was on fire and we had to use the hose to put the fire out. If we had not put the garbage out on the deck, we would have had a kitchen fire. Now, we need to purchase another microwave, as Sears will not do anything about this one, and I doubt if we will ever shop at Sears again. We have been customers for over 40 years, and had nothing but good things to say about Sears and their products. But having had trouble with two microwaves in 7 years is a bit much. Also, our other appliances, the dishwasher needs fixing and the refrigerator ice maker is not working well. And they are all Kenmore Elite products. We are very disappointed with the quality of service. Oh, we can have the microwave fixed, but it will cost as much as a new one. We will never recommend Sears to anyone ever again.
