10 stars!

We bought this because we have been lugging jugs of water from the store for years now and grew tired of it!  We have a baby on the way and knew we would be using even more water too.  We installed this under the sink, which fits quite nicely and also ran a line to our refrigerator for the water and...

I have had this for 2 years and now it is time to replace the reverse osmosis membrane.  I CANNOT FIND THIS REPLACEMENT PART.  I have been to our local Sears store, I have been to the Sears parts outlet locally and have made about 10 phone calls about this and NO ONE can get me a replacement membrane...

Kenmore Elite Premiere Reverse Osmosis Drinking... Reviews

Displaying reviews 1 - 13 of 24 in total

I bought this unit in October of 2009 thinking I was getting the top of the line RO unit to replace our 10 + year old unit that quit working.  Within 2 months the light began blinking red and within 2 days I had no water.  Replaced all the filters, at a cost of around $100.  Another 2 months went by and guess what, time to replace the filters.  I am on my 4th set of filters ($400 on top of the cost of the unit) and this unit is not even a year old.  Whats up with that.  If this keeps up, I will yank this unit out and get another system from another vender.  My old unit, cost of $100, would...

I would highly recommend this product.  Installation is very easy and within 24 hours you will have purified water on tap.  We have saved so much money now that we do not have to buy bottled water.  We tested high in nitrates, but after installing the system we cannot detect any nitrates.  The water tastes so good we are drinking more water compared to other drinks.  I have researched these systems and this is the best one I found that a homeowner/do it your selfer can install.   The thing I like best is I know it is working as there is a light on the faucet that tells you when you need...

I love this unit

Our city water started smelling like chlorine summer of 2009 and the officials said the problem would not be fixed until early 2010 so I researched RO systems and bought the Kenmore Elite. Performance and quality are great - totally takes out the water odor and all the rest of the bad stuff. We get great compliments from entire family & visitors. We have never run out of purified water and we use it for drinking, cooking, rinsing vegetablesd, ice machine on refridgerator and I also sometimes rinse glasses with it after they come out of the dishwasher.

I put the RO faucet where our hand sprayer...

This system works better than the more expensive system it replaced. My only complaint is after cutting the hole in the sink for the faucet it was very difficult to install. I think a larger size should be recommended. Water tastes great!

horrible product

Well, to start my sister-in-law purchased this product 2 months ago. Two days after it was installed, by a professional, the filters already needed to be replaced. Now, 2 months later, the same predicament has evolved. The green indicator light, indicating that everything is working alright, is still blinking green, still indicating that the unit is functioning properly. This product is a waste of money. My wife and I bought this product two days ago because we were informed that it was the best filtration, and safest that we could buy. We will be returning the product after it has performed so... read full review »

indicator failure but good filter

Overall we've been satisfied but have to swag on when to replace the filters. About 3 or 4 months after installing it the light went out and no matter how many resets and battery changes it never came back on. I fiddled with the wires but didn't seem to do any good either. I didn't feel like taking the thing entirely out so we've just guestimated replacement dates. The water out of it is quite good and we've been very satisfied with our filter + softener treatment.

3 stars

Works well, but it is loud. The process of refilling the tank causes a bubbling sound in the drain. This is much louder than my old GE Water Filter.

very happy

I bought this unit almost a year ago, so I have a longer experience with this unit before doing a review. Others talk about the specs, I'll talk a little more about the unit itself. Because this is an under the counter set-up, you do need to have an access hole in your countertop for the faucet to come through. We have a new granite countertop, but did not need to drill a new hole. Our countertop had a hole in it already for a soap dispenser. We took out the soap dispenser and the faucet fit perfectly. This particular RO system has a light on it indicating what condition the filters are in. When... read full review »

love the product, installation nightmare

My water tastes better, I feel that it is good, quality drinking water and it is nice not to have to buy drinking water at the store. Counter-top faucet is attractive. Although I am satisfied now that it is properly installed, and repaired, I had very difficult experiences with the installation. Purchased installation, which in retrospect I would still recommend. Installation problem was because I live an hour and a half from a large city, Sears subcontracted a plumber, and the plumber installed it incorrectly into horizonital drain in between the garbage disposal in the p trap, when it should... read full review »

Great product poor mfg QC

I bought the Elite Reverse Osmosis RO system to replace an ear;y Kenmore RO. The Elite unit is a vast improvement. I installed the Elite in place of the earlier model. Leak check found a failure INSIDE the cover of the unit. Fortunately, I was willing and able to repair an incomplete collet connection at the unit outlet. I expected more from Sears, but with the repair I made I am satisfied with the unit as installed.

Considering this is Sears' most expensive RO unit, I anticipated that the specs would at least be correct. Storage is NOT 4 gallons but 2.4 gallons. You will quickly run out of water unless you store it elsewhere. Reading through the installation instructions, it is not immediately obvious that either you can install this under the counter or "remotely" (somewhere else). You don't need an air gap unless you don't install this under the counter (pardon the double negative). The instructions refer to a flow control insert needed for a remote installation and mentions figure 26. There is no figure... read full review »

Great Product

I installed this RO System under the kitchen sink, replacing an older unit. Sears did a good job of providing all the parts needed for installation. As expected not all homes are the same so I needed fittings to tap into the cold water line that feeds the sink faucet. I bought a 1 1/4" hole saw to install the RO faucet in the sink. I bought a tee fitting to tie into the blue RO supply hose so I could run water to my refrigerator. This unit looks great under the sink & installation had no unexpected problems. I recommend fully reading the instructions prior to installation. Thanks Sears.

The part # for the reverse osmosis membrane (the middle filter) is 38577 on the label, but is 3857705 on Sears Parts Direct.

Overall, I have been very happy with this filter.  However, the connection for the indicator light is fragile at the faucet side (ours broke).  Also, if you actually install under the sink, keep in mind that you need to be able to get to BOTH the back and front of the unit.  You need to reach the back to change the battery for the...
