HORRIBLE. I hate this vacuum! It is heavy and bulky and does not guide. You have to stop and pick it up and set it back down. So heavy, it will not roll over its own cord. I can't say enough bad things about it. Do not waste your money....

Have had this vac almost 3 weeks. I see others have problem with cord winding back into vac and pulling out of outlet. Well I have the opposite problem. I have trouble with the damn cord NOT wanting to rewind! I wanted a bag vac because the last upright wind tunnel shot dirt out back and if my husband wanted me to vac then he was the one to have to empty the cannister. Whats the point of hepa filter when you have to dump and breathe all the crap you just vac up? Well back to my hot rod blue vac!!! ahahhh Didn't see these reviews before I bought this vac, almost $500. The only great thing about is the color!!

I have never rated anything on the internet before, but I feel that this is such a great vacuum, I had to do it...My mother-in-law had lent me her Electrolux for a bit and I really loved it--it had powerful suction and the idea of a canister grew on me. So when I decided to buy one of our own, I looked for a canister. A friend of mine who owns her own cleaning business told me about her Kenmore, and I had my doubts that it was as good as the electrolux. I went to Sears and tried it out and it did have suction as strong as the Electrolux...but with way better features. For instance, I love the handle on the canister that makes it easy to carry and hold for steps, etc. Also, the fact that the bare floor head is built right into the power head and easily clicks out is AWESOME! No more carrying around 2 different heads...the attachments are great, too--love the mini power head for the steps.

I was going to leave only 4 stars because, at first use, it seemed awfully hard to push....

After reading some reviews, I had my doubts about this vacuum. (Before I got this one, I purchased a different model and brought it back the next day.)

I am happy to say that really like this vacuum. It's not loud (quieter than my very old PowerMate), and I really like the features my old vacuum didn't have (bare floor vs carpets; PowerMate attachments that swivel; and a SUPER long power cord, for example.) Best of all is the attachment for stairs. (My runner hasn't looked this good since it was installed.) Once I got the hang of how to "free" the tube from the bare floor PowerMate heads, I went to town with the attachments.

I got it on sale (it'd kill me to pay the full price for it), so that was a plus, too.

Let me try to be objective. Because there really are pros and cons to this machine. I've owned this vacuum for almost 4 years. The suction really is powerful and really only diminishes when the bag is completely full... and you'll notice, change it and be right back on track. But I'm already having to replace this vacuum. I'll admit all the abuse it takes and you decide if that is reasonable wear and tear or not. I don't think it is (for it to be pooping out this early) - and I would not recommend it to an enemy. But you can make that decision for yourself. I have 3 children who eat goldfish crackers, cheerios and other generally crunchy things. I like having the hard-floor tool when they drop things under the kitchen table. I have friends who have their regular vacuum AND a flat floor steamer mop sucker thing also. I like the all-in-one (minus steaming). I have one golden retriever. He loves to run around and be outside, so he only wants to come in when it's too cold/too hot......

Had to replace bare floor attachment assembly because rollers broke. Had to buy whole head instead of just roller assembly,over $100. Now 6 mos. later it is broke again, what a piece of junk. Wish I had never bought it because when rollers break they leave scratches on hardwood floors.

I have been a happy owner of a Kenmore Powermate vacuum for 20+ years and finally replaced it with a new Kenmore Intuition canister vacuum - eventhough my 20+ years Powermate is still going fairly strong. Eventhough there are many other brands of vacuums out on the market that claim to do just about everything, I am sticking with Kenmore vacuums. We have 5 dogs and the Intuition does a great job of picking up the dog hair and I love the 'dirt sensor'. Kenmore vacuums are most definitely worth the money. Highly recommend this vacuum to anyone looking to replace theirs.

PRO's: Great suction, floor head detaches right out of carpet head- real convenient, light stays with wand so you can still see, good dirt and hair removal on carpet and floor, nice attachments, adjustable wand for different user preference, hepa filter, doesn't get weaker suction when getting full, easy bag change.

CON's The main feature of adjustable wand does not work. When you push on it without hold your other hand down low on wand, it often will retract to shorter lenth. This happpens with more regularity as it wears from aouto adjusting constantly.

The brake on the cord reel did not hold. The cord retracts while vacuuming and pulls out of the wall. I guess this is fixable, but Sears says to replace the entire reel assebly. Not going to happen.

The compartment covers are made of plastic, and one little nub pulled off of the hinge, so it needs the whole door.

If the retractable wand worked correctly it would be acceptable because of the other great features. What a shame. ...

I wrote a review shortly after purchasing this vacuum -- and although I do not see the review anymore, I do believe I purchased it in 2009. I was quite satisfied with the unit at the time and wrote a positive review. Two years have past and I am not as enamored -- I am actually quite disappointed. If I had not paid so much, I would put it on the curb on garbage day.

My last (expensive) Kenmore vacuum lasted almost 20 years and it was what prompted me to purchase the Intuition, since I always believe you get what you pay for. I doubt that this model will make it past 4 years before it dies or I throw it out.

Like many of the other negative reviewers, it is the engineering that is most lacking -- one would think with the amount of years Sears/Kenmore has been making vacuums, this would be a no-brainer -- clearly someone tried to fix what was not broken.

Here is what I have experienced to date:

- the cord refuses to stay extended, except when you press the retract bar -- then it hasn't...

I purchased this vacuum in 2009. Seven months later, I was running the vacuum and it smelled like it was going to catch "on fire." My Sears store had close its doors, so I took it to a local repair shop. I paid $100.00 for them to disasemple the machine and diagnose the problem. The motor had an electrical problem and was causing "arching" inside the canister. The repair shop contacted Sears and ordered the part (covered under 1-year warranty). Two months later, the vacuum quit working. Back to the local repair shop and another $100.00 later, the Powermate power head had to be replaced. This was not covered under the 1-year warranty. I went online to order the part and I was shocked. The part was $281.00, plus taxes, plus shipping. I paid over $500.00 for this vacuum, $200.00 in repair shop fees, and a potential purchase of over $300.00 for a new part (for a vacuum that was 10 months old). The bags and filters for this vacuum are expensive and if your local Sears has closed,......

I love this vacuum! It is what I have been looking for in a vacuum canister cleaner. At last I can clean my textured walls instead of using a broom. One of the best features is the light on the wand to see what you are cleaning.

Canaster is good with great power but the hose has a lot to be desiered. It is bulky making the Buttons on the handkle dificult to hande. Would not recomend it for an older women do to the size of the handle....

I have owned many Kenmore vacuums and was very excited to spend extra money to get an elite machine. It has broken 3 times in addition to having a wiring issue. I use this machine to vacuum 2 small area rugs daily so it is hardly beaten on. Even worse, since the same part of the vacuum hasn't broken 3 times I have no recourse and can't switch it for another model. I am so disappointed with this vacuum I had to take the time to write my first ever consumer review.

Overall, I like this vacuum cleaner. It's powerful, easy to use, light to carry and manuverable. My only complaints are that the bare floor nozzell tends to nose dive when I push it, sometimes, and the row of brushes don't go far enough around the perimeter to funnel dirt into the vacuum flow....

I love the furniture attachment it works well on removing dog hair from the sofa. The extending wand is a great feature. The shorter wand is the correct length for kids to use or the wand can extend so my six foot husband can comfortably vacuum. The only flaw I can find is the flimsy canister lid where the attachments are stored. An impatient person could break them off easily. I have purchased this same vacuum for my daughter a few years ago and just purchased this one for my son....

I wanted a canister style with a bag and this is the one! Two choices: "cloth" or paper, so I have both to use for different purposes. The plug head for hardwoods is the greatest - it sits in the powerhead easily AND removes with a click with your foot, so there is no time taken up with changing between carpet and hardwood!!!!!! The telescoping pole is perfect for me because I'm not as tall as most people, yet I can extend the handle when I want to use attachments on drapes and upper surfaces of furniture. Thank you Sears!

Machine worked flawlessly for the first 3 years. Then the motor head died. I ordered replacement parts and got it working again, only to die 3 months later. Definitely NOT worth the price! Poor quality and workmanship.
